Trump is undeniably an bit odd. But I think he's got his head screwed on.

I suppose the main benefit we have from Mr Trump is that he is overtly odd, and doesn't give two hoots who knows it. Lets be honest, the vast majority of politicians the world over could be described as having questionable mental ability and/or morals.

I actually think, that given sufficient time, he might be OK. His excessive amount of foot in mouth disease will be curbed by the people around him. His latest two appointees have already publicly disagreed with his policies. With enough control by his appointees and his 'Sir Humphreys' he might get some things done correctly.

There's no doubt that he's a big personality with a big ego and he may be able to channel that into becoming a good orator.

Reagan wasn't the brightest crayon in the box but, with the right people behind him, he didn't turn out too bad - and he was a very likable personality.

Agreed! Then when one with mental ability and moral standards comes along, he/she is disliked by all. What an odd world we live in!

Trumps main fault is his blatant xenophobia. Statements like that he'll build a wall to keep Mexicans out and make Mexico pay for it, or not a single one Muslim will be allowed in, they immediately and rightly put people's guard up against him. Anything he says after that is rightly treat with suspicion and skepticism.

But if we were to disregard his most blatantly stupid claims, and look at everything else objectively, a lot of what he says makes sense. IS DID rise to power on Obama's watch. That's not really Obama's fault. It was Bush, Bliar and co that created the power vacuum that IS filled but nonetheless, nobody did enough about it early enough. Lots of people seem unhappy with Obamacare, which used to puzzle me until I heard a debate on the radio, and it came to light that it was basically a case of forcing everyone to buy private medical insurance, and many insurers capitalised on the increase in demand by pushing the prices up. He's already infuriated the Chinese by speaking on the phone to the democratically elected leader of Taiwan. Good. It's time someone undermined China. The Chinese government is pure nastiness. But most notably and importantly in my opinion, he has repeatedly gone against the stupid grain of 'Russia is pure evil' that seems to pervade the US and even leak across to the UK. The only reason the US hates Russia in the first place is because after the second world war, and treaty was drawn up whereby the US got to lay claim to one chunk of Germany and Russia another. Both sent people in to recover German technology. The Americans tried to steal from the Russian side and vice versa, and like spoiled little kids, they've been bickering since but as Russia is the older, more mature nation, they've played it down while baby America keeps throwing tantrums. Like any big brother, Russia does of course occasionally tease and torment little baby US, but then they probably back off and laugh when the US tantrum flares up again. Trump seems to want to put an end to this cycle of silliness, and get two of the world's most powerful nations back on friendly terms. This upsets a lot of people, many of whom have been indoctrinated since birth to believe that Russia is evil. But if the world is to move forward, sometimes deep seated stereotypes need to be challenged. Trump seems to be doing that.

When you boil it down Trump is not a "professional" politician, something I think many people have had quite enough of.
The Pros just seem to not put a foot wrong, they know just what to say and how to avoid questions they would rather not answer for fear of upsetting some part of the electorate.

So they basically stand for nothing, they are definite maybes, we have lots of them.

Trump does say what he thinks, many people seem to take what he says literally, "building a wall" etc.
To my mind it's a figure of speech, and those that take it literally are, to my mind just slightly gullible.
I'm sure he will be reigned in once he gets the job.

                      Agreed.

Although I watched his speech the other day and he again said that he would get the wall built and then apply tariffs to pay for it.

Yeah, but it will probably be a fence at most, and what he is mostly saying is he will come down hard on people smugglers and drug traffickers.
Which to my mind can only be a good thing.

As a sideline I found it very hard to take that the Hollywood luvvies had to take a pop at him during the recent orgy of backslapping that goes on every year amongst those very rich and privileged people.

If you watched his speech he stated categorically that it would not be a fence but a wall. :dunno:

Yes, but he's entitled to have a go back and does it very well. :heehee:

At least, in the U.S. they allow freedom of speech. :blue thumb: Over here in the UK we go a lot further and are renowned for satirically taking the pee out of our politicians. We've had a number of hit TV comedy programmes that do just that.

In Russia you would do so at your peril.

There you go, taking what he says literally, fence wall, what is the difference if you can't get over it?
Yeah I just hate that kind of so called personality who thinks because they are in the public eye they need to give us "their" opinion on things.
They are just trying to get publicity for their own ends, showing how they "feel" for the "little man" out there who was duped into voting for such an idiot.
Most of them dont have two brain cells to rub together, but they need to tell us how they feel.
                      Do we care??????

Satirical piss taking of politicians is another thing entirely and is usually done on a pretty even handed approach.

Sorry? It was him that insisted that there was a difference when he was questioned on it. :snork:

By the way, how deep are they going to make this wall? There are already sections of wall/fence that have got tunnels under them. :noidea:

I don't really care one way or the other. It's not my country :snorky:

We've got our own wall to build across Ireland when we trigger Article 50 :heehee:. Who's going to pay for that? And when Scotland secedes, do we repair Hadrians Wall? :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I had a quick look at Hadrian's wall a few years ago, and to be honest it was falling down in most places.
I think it was probably jerry built, using Zig's lime mortar, so not intended to be permanent.

Just goes to show, if you want a wall built, get the Chinese to do it for you.
