Do people soak their seed prior to sowing or not?

We just lay them on damp kitchen paper and put them in our seed sprouter.

I soak them in weak cold tea @burnie , as recommended on some Chilli sites. Seems to work :blue thumb:

I soaked them with 65° hot water, seems more efficient

it seems as though we all do different things and I'm sure that we all have good germination. :dbgrtmb:

Maybe it's saying something about how easy it is to grow chillies. :)

I find that the Naga varieties have about 75%-80% germination rate and the Shiney Hybrids have almost 100%.

I have seeds to spare, so I will do a trial with soaked and non soaked to see what works best for me, thanks all

Just for info on the varieties I mentioned above. With both varieties placed on damp kitchen paper in seed sprouters and kept in a fairly warm kitchen, the Nagas take about 7 - 10 days to germinate and the Shiney Hybrids take four days. :dbgrtmb:

The unsoaked seeds are now in the propagator, time will tell if this will work, I have seed available for the wet paper towel method next, followed finally by the soaked in cold tea last. Now is the tea Indian and do we need sugar?lol.

Mrs Shiney put some of our ShineyHybrid seeds on kitchen paper, and in our seed sprouter, on the 26th and they have started to germinate. Not too bad a result as they've just been sitting on the kitchen worktop, so no extra heat. Not put any Nagas for germination yet.
