I've just loaded pics that are 1000 x 750 from my computer with no problem. Sometime last year Admin altered the sizing to take larger pictures but I can't remember the largest size we can use.

Just tried on a different machine running Windows 7 and a slightly older Firefox version than my home set up and it works. So problem could be with my Windows 10.

@Jiffy If you emailed a pic to a GC mod/admin/member so they could attempt posting, it would determine whether the problem lies with your images or elsewhere.

I've done that in the past after being informed on this forum that it must be something to do with my hardware/browser setup.

I tried saving and posting your image (win 10/IE) and got this, don't know where that .mht extension came from. Copying images on GC and re-posting has never been a problem before.

OK, one at a time and not necessarily in order:

                • Standard accepted image size is 800 x 600, maximum 4mb; images larger than this will, in many cases, automatically be resized by the site software - the best way to do this is to 'drag and drop' the image into the text box where you are writing your post. Be aware, however, that images that are way over the score will be rejected by the software and will need to be manually resized.
                • Accepted file formats are: zip, txt, jpg, pdf, png, jpeg, jpe and gif
                • Firefox is being an utter sod recently. I really like Firefox, but there has been some updates recently that have caused no end of grief with images and adverts (I have had numerous cases where it just hangs up all together if it takes umbridge to the images on a particular site); having said that, it does seem to be slowly improving, so I reckon that the clever peeps are onto it. Chrome is a good alternative, but even it struggles with some things, for no apparent reason.
                • The image that you tried to upload @Scrungee failed because it was in .mht format; this is an archive file for internet browser images, which is what the thumbnail images are. If you had clicked through and opened the full size image you could have then right clicked and taken the 'Save Image As...' option.
                • @Jiffy - can you email me the image, and I will see if I can spot anything?
                • Whenever problems like this occur, it is worth bearing in mind that there are a few things that can be the root cause - these include anti-virus software that is being over-zealous (often a look in the settings of the AV can resolve this); browser cache hasn't been cleaned for a while (CCleaner is the ideal solution for this, and is free); an update has been applied to your PC but requires a restart for everything to work; Java needs to be updated - this one in particular can cause all sorts of weird behaviour when it is needing updating;
                • Ad blockers on browsers (particularly Firefox and Chrome) can stop images in both directions; AdBlock & AdBlockPlus are two that I know of that are guilty of this, and to a remarkable degree. uBlock Origin is much better, of course remembering to add an exception to allow the adverts that support GC.
                • Apple products are something of an unknown to me, so I'm afraid I cannot really help with them - bear in mind that they do work differently to PC's and will have their own restrictions/limitations/foibles.

If you are in need of software to deal with images, I highly recommend Paint.net - completely free, and very powerful whilst remaining fairly easy to use (takes a wee bit of playing with to get used to it, but it is really comprehensive software).

Whilst the Admin team cannot post images by the hundred, if you are stuck with a particular image, please email it to [email protected], remembering to tell us your username and the thread that you would like the image posted into. Please also remember that we are volunteers, and have day jobs, so it may take us a wee while before we can post the image for you.

If I have missed anything here, please holler :)

I'm inclined to blame Firefox's recent updates for my problems. As I have had a number of odd events recently such as not being able to log into long used sites.

It is very likely @NigelJ - I am a long time Firefox user, but there has been many occasions in recent weeks where I have had no choice to abandon it and use Chrome as it has been virtually unusable. Try disabling any add-ons, and then re-enable them one at a time, using it for a wee while in between, and you might be able to isolate where the problem lies. One thing is for sure, it is likely to be a temporary problem, as the clever folks at Mozilla are usually really hot on sorting bugs out.

I stopped using firefox some time ago, I initially liked it but it became a pain in the backside, so swapped it for chrome.
I now use only chrome but occasionally IE.

I get the feeling Mozilla are good at sorting bugs out because firefox is so full of them.

On the rare occasion when I have had an issue uploading a photo, I discovered a little quirk which helped me (I use IE).

I needed to ensure that I had pressed the return/enter key in the "Post Reply" box *before* dragging and dropping the image into the reply.

So, I would type my reply/photo comment, then hit the enter/return key a couple of times, then drag and drop and that seemed to resolve any issues I had with posting a .jpg ... of course, that may just be a quirk with my own methods :heehee: Oh, and I also resize my photos so that they conform with the file size GC accepts.

That's what I thought I did and still got an image with the .mht extension, but can't find the image on my hard drive, so perhaps when I clicked through and opened the full size image I tried copying and pasting direct into a GC post, meaning that images can't be copied from one post to another? (without saving on one's hard drive and re-uploading which all sounds rather laborious and slightly ironic perhaps if it's more difficult to upload GC images to GC than from other websites)
