Regarding Wilko, perhaps it depends how quick they sell the Christmas stuff before they bring out the gardening items, they have to free up the shelving.

Traditional rat traps with timber base half price @ £1.50. Packets of 25 sparkly stick on bows for Xmas pressies 10p (the last Xmas items left in store). No sign of timber handled s.s. tools, all the new ones are enamelled painted finish so appears as if they've been discontinued.

We used to look out for those when our daughter was young, every year we'd use masking tape to divide up front ground floor window panes with snow spray glazing bars into multiple stencil size panes, then do a mix of Xmassy stencils and/or 'snowy corners' on all the rectangles created, then worry about it getting on our Nottingham Lace nets, then clean it all off, but our daughter loved it and we thought it a bit more creative than putting up a load of lights, but we had to leave our curtains open for it to be visible from the street.

Well done! I once got a couple of trolley loads of stuff at 1p each. There's always the dilemma of do I buy the lot or leave them for other gardeners, but having taken just one tool many years ago then had somebody behind me grab all the rest (obviously to sell them on) I adopt a different stance these days.

If there was hundreds of cheap bags of compost or pots or canes or plant labels, etc. I would buy them all because I use vast quantities myself. With tools I'll get enough for some to break, some to be left at the plot and get stolen, another for home and 1 to car boot.

When I've car booted stuff it's been to raise money for our daughter to go on a World Challenge trip to Malaysia & Borneo, and we now need to sell some more plants (together with perhaps a few surplus tools) to raise something towards the £6,000 (+ spending + equipment) for a uni field trip to Africa.

And once you've got an allotment, you may be able to swop spare loppers for other stuff.

It did cross my mind leaving them for others and also selling on but I thought "nah I'm actually going to need (lose) these at some point" and I hardly broke the bank, one lot of loppers will be going to the old man, he's got a load of trees/shrubs in his garden but the rest of the hand forks I'll deffo need (lose).

Sounds awesome, bet she's enjoying uni doing them trips :) I'm sure you'll raise it and more.

As for the allotment, I'm having great difficulty trying to find the site managers and council couldn't give me any names or numbers, every time I go there the gates are locked and this is 9-10 in the morning on both sites I'd like to have a plot on.

In Medway, you call the council and ask for the person who runs the allotments, in our case it was the Parks Manager, who puts your name on a list....not sure how long the list is now
but 3 years ago there was a two year waiting list :cry3:

I forgot about getting to give as presents. My daughter's always looking for bargains at Manchester's Wilkos to give me for Birthdays and Xmas.

This is when we got 2 trollies of stuff all at 1p each, even a mini greenhouse! There were about 3 or 4 of us clearing their shelves of reduced stuff, I could of had more but I kept taking stuff out of my trollies to give to other people after telling them it was all scanning at only 1p.

At Wyevale today, 50% off, 180 grams Rootgrow for £4.47, have some not on sale for £6 for 120 grams. Does Rootgrow really work?

That's 2.48p/gram. Wilko sell it full price @ £4 for 150g = 2.67p/g, only 0.19p/g or about 8% more expensive Wilko Best Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi 150g Wyevale's full price is very high.

I stocked up when Wilko had it 50% off towards end of last season, 6x 150g packs for £12:

Yes I agree Scrungee their prices are high, it did look to me that the price labels were new, probably higher price then to reduce. mycorrhizal fungi is a fancy name, does it work? anyone on this board done any tests?
