You could rename them after the months of the year now (January 2017, February 2017 ... :snorky: )
Looking forward to hearing which varieties you have chosen :blue thumb:

I can't remember them all @"M" but a few are replacements for ones I lost, and others are new to me. One of them, Swanlea Pendula, I remember buying back in the 80s and have never seen it since, so when I found it on this website I got EXCITED and HAD to order it imadiately :heehee::help:

There's a copy of the ones I ordered on my account page with that particular site. I'll copy them for you and whoever's interested. I can't wait to get them but I have asked if they could be delivered in April so that I can put them in a perspex shelter with no heat.

Good selection you have there; I particularly like "Midwinter". Can't wait to see how they perform for you later this year :dbgrtmb:

My Fuchsias are in a perspex shelter, covered with fleece, and when I checked them earlier I found they are all sprouting lovely green shoots

                          Hi all,

Hope I am not hi jacking the thread by posting my question here, but it would seem the best place to ask .

Have grown Fuchsias in both the greenhouse using various makes of MP compost and outside in the soil and planters with good results over recent years.

Am looking to get some more compost for repotting and some new arrivals expected this month.
Fuchsia 'Five Star Giants Collection' - Hanging Basket Plants - Van Meuwen

When doing a bit of reading, was surprised to see that Fuchsias are said to be acid loving plants, around ph6
Have seen some sites suggest mixing your own compost using pure peat, perlite and gravel, but as I understand it, pure peat has a really low ph of 4.

Any thoughts on which compost is best and if I should be looking to give my plants a more acid mix or just stick with decent MP compost ..?

                          thanks

The lower the ph, the more acidic, so maybe a mix of pure peat and MPC? Having said that, the peat content of the likes of Jacks Magic compost is quite high, so I would anticipate that it would have a lower ph than bog standard MPC anyway, and it is not expensive.

I've got two Fuchisias in one of the cast iron baths. They are bee friendly, but I don't know the variety as lost the planting tags. I bought and planted them last year in the cheap compost I buy from a local hardware store ( three 70 litre bags for £10.00 ). No idea what the ph is. Both Fuchisias flowered profusely during the summer, the bees loved them :snorky:. I chopped them back in the autumn and left them in the bath. New shoots sprouted a couple of weeks back.

Interested as to when members prune their Hardy Fuchsias after winter? Last year I pruned 3 h/fuchsias at around this time as it was at least down our way quite mild.

I am a bit hesitant at the moment to do the same. 2 of the fuchsias,Delta Sarah & Alice Hoffman have started to get loads of leaf buds so really are due to be cut down. The 3rd for some reason always produces new shoots from the ground as last year’s shoots always die off.

We have predicted "feels like" -1 -2 next week due to wind chill. That is the problem for me as the wind is quite cold and not sure if I prune fuchsias down now damage could be done with the cold wind even though they are hardy.

Live in Wiltshire and last frost predicted about 1st week in May, so they say!! My gut feeling is to leave pruning another couple of weeks or so till about middle of April.

Your thoughts and experience would be appreciated, thanks
