Watched Any Good Films Lately?

I cannot recall titles easy. But it was the new one that Harry Potter author put out. I have Netflix now so seeing a few once in a while depends on if I can stay up at night.

 

Watched "Housewife 49" the other evening (starring Victoria Wood; 2006).
Not a fast paced/action/thriller/titivating type of film, but very well acted and based on a true story of a woman who took part in the "Mass Observation Diary" project and taken from her contributions between 1939 - Feb. '66.
It was really interesting to see how her life altered through the war years and how the people around her altered in tandem with her own changes.

 

I watched War Dogs the other night. Staring Johnas Hill. Very good. Based on a true story about 2 arm dealers. Worth a watch.

I've just watched heartbreak ridge again. It is one of maybe a dozen good films in the whole of movie history.

 

As good as it is it's probably not in the top one hundred. But we are different

Watched a short film called Paths of Hate the other day..............


Absolutely brilliant. I must admit though that I prefer this version with different music that someone did.............


I watched one of Roman Polanski's early films as well - Repulsion. Great film! Watch the full movie here on You Tube...............

 

There is no top 100. There are only about a dozen decent movies ever made, ever.

I don't watch many films on TV ,but watched this over Christmas.
A facsinating entertaining story about three children who literally looked after their Grandads final wishes........in a most unusual way.........
Watch it if you can.

 

We went to see T2:Trainspotting on Friday...............


I was rather excited but dreading also it at the same time. In the end it wasn't as good as the original but that doesn't make it a bad film. Actually it is a really, really good film. It had rather a large hill to climb to match the original and it fell just short simply because I had seen the original.

 

Neither of us were terribly impressed with La La Land nor understand why it has so many nominations.

We did however enjoy A Time to Kill by John Grisham yesterday ... could be as we lived in Alabama in the 60s/70s and I worked in criminal law there.

 

I watched one called The Water Diviner yesterday evening, and really enjoyed it.

Apparently, it was banned, or at least stopped in the UK, and I have no idea why. Unless it was for political motives, that is.

 

Screenings stopped as it was just not doing the box office. There was some sort of social media campaign about it as I recall but not sure what that was all about.

 

Just watched what I consider to be a wonderful movie, 'Apocalypto'. Not historically correct with regards to the timeline, but immensely gripping. Highly recommended

 

We went this afternoon to see it. I like you was excited, but also a bit apprehensive. I like the way that it quotes back to the original. Worth watching though.

I agree.
I think that the reason that it suceeded is that it quotes back to the original without trying to be the original.
Having had a week to reflect on it I went to see it again yesterday as a mates wife was too ill to go. Whilst it lacks the gobsmacking audacity of the first film this is still very fine film making indeed. A remarkable achievement when you consider the weight of expectation.
