I've been visiting that site Burrowhayes Farm - Caravan and Camping Site & Riding Stables since (about the second year?) it opened, around 40 years ago.

No clubroom, no swimming pool, no bar, etc., but it now has wifi, a river for kids to play in, it's surrounded by Exmoor, dog walks, coast only a few miles away, Butlins for a day trip if you fancy that sort of thing, but they have riding stables and will also let you take out your kids/grandchildren/etc. astride a small pony, led by yourselves for an about 30 min walk outside the campsite.

When I suggested to my wife we stayed there about 20 years ago, her reaction was less than enthusiastic, but it immediately became one of our regular holiday venues, both for camping and static caravans. The only downside was our daughter taking up horse riding and costing us £1,000's in lessons, equipment and holidays, but it did her a world of good.

Just the sort of site I like. My caravan is sited on a working farm that has a separate touring field, surrounded by rolling hills. It does have a swimming pool, but it's well away from the camping area, so no audible sound of screaming kids

Upgraded my Sun Hols booking to a pet friendly caravan this morning, 5 days of Exmoor & West Somerset beach dog walks [1], a bit of fishing, some landscape/wildlife photography, perhaps a couple of NT visits, maybe a cider farm, etc., and it's the week The Flying Scotsman visits the West Somerset Railway!

And less than the cost of camping, if taking account of fuel saving travelling without a topbox, no Butane usage, and none of the hassle.

[1] Only one beach in West Somerset has dog restrictions in summer!

So did I. Even today, I play the theme song in a "punk boogie" style. Rossini is turning over in his grave at either 33, 45, or 78 rpm! :snork:

I remember visiting Switzerland in 1307 and being in Altdorf and seeing William Tell shoot the apple off Robert's head. :old:
