MPs back legislation to give UK PM Theresa May the power to begin Brexit negotiations by 498 votes to 114
Good. Maybe now I can have Facebook back without having to see a wall of posts about the latest loophole to block it.
I think now the loopholes will be played. Once article 50 is set in motion the MPs will want a vote on every fine detail of the negotiations, and I can see every trick in the book being played to stop us exiting in anything but name. ie, out of the EU but bound by every sodding law and stipulation they dictate.
Yep. Where else would I broadcast my thoughts that are too inappropriate even for here Or on a more serious note, some of my very good friends now lived scattered all over the world. Facebook is a convenient way to keep in touch with them.
I've amended your post to reflect my take on things For UK MP's to cause a ruckus at this stage, might, just might, be political suicide. However, for the MEP's, who recognise the financial significance of the UK leaving the EU ... ouchie! They are sure to kick up a stink!!!! One thing I heard today which gave me pause for thought: "These are uncertain times because of Brexit; however, had the vote swung in the Remain Camp, these would also present uncertain times!" I think that has much truth in it. Either way: splice the main brace; we're in for a rocky ride (and would have been which ever way the vote had gone).
Probably Nigel Farage is the only one not bothered about ceasing to be on the MEP gravy train although he's stated with a grin that he will stay to the end just to annoy the EU. Anyway, I somehow suspect that Nigen is now a unofficially paid sycophant of Trump and wheedling his way into any position he can get.
Not quite sure what you mean by that last paragraph, surely if the vote had gone remain it would be business as usual, I very much doubt that the "leave" voters would be out there protesting. As to MEPs am I not right in thinking they dont sit in parliament and as such wont be voting on any of the leaving negotiations. In fact we might as well pay that bunch off and put them on JSA down at the job centre. They are redundant in my book.
We may have to agree to disagree on that score (all joking aside, of course ) My point was the UK financial input into the EU budget, which, as a result of Brexit, is now going to be withdrawn, will rattle many of the MEP's. This, in turn, will have an affect on the negotiations and not particularly in our favour. To be clear: this is not a direct result of NF or his grinning I have one, yup, just the one, moment when I really did get a belly laugh from NF. It was the first EU parliament following the Brexit vote. Whilst Junker et al were scratching their heads at why NF was even *there* .. NF came out with the classic line: (please allow for "artistic license" in my memory of it) "... I came here .. said that I wanted to lead a campaign to get Britain to leave the EU, you all laughed at me – well I have to say, you’re not laughing now, are you?" You've have to admit .. that is: Classic!!!!! Thankfully though, at this crucial stage .. he is not a leading player. So, let's focus on those who are Because, it is *they* who will make (or break) this opportunity. I just hope that the panic from the EU (scurrying around wondering where their next penny is coming from) will not compromise the fundamental reason (we are lead to believe) is why leaving received a majority vote in the UK.
You think? I think the "leave" voters would be very much in evidence had the vote swung the other way! It is an emotive (as well as political) subject. Even had the vote been for a "remain" result ... you have to look at the whole picture here. There are a number of European elections on the horizon; it is predicted that the "nationalist" parties are gaining ground. Had we voted "Remain" you cannot ignore the reality that there are a lot of European voters who are disillusioned with the whole concept (let alone the practical aspects) of a "United Europe". There are simply too many cultural compromises being "assumed" and acted upon. The peoples of Europe are getting just a tad fed up with a "one size fits all" approach to a system which does not recognise the cultural transition of each member state or the time it takes to make that leap. That is before you even consider the financial burden of trying to bring together all those nations into a "one size fits all" political, economical, societal and cultural utopia!
This is the one. It's not just the opening that is funny. In fact it gets more funny as it goes on. Yet although funny, is mostly bang on. And the reaction from the others speaks volumes about all that is wrong with the EU. Here is a man who is telling them the truth in the simplest terms possible, and they are audibly mocking him.
There is little that you can argue against in what Nigel says in the speech. Obviously, UKIP was/is regarded in the EU Parliament as the Pariah in the room. If you take time to look at the faces of the other MEPs you can see the amused arrogance of those who know they're safe in a powerful organisation, earning an over inflated wage and benefits, having a budget coming from 28 different countries that is impossible to account for and therefore open to abuse, and having the belief that Fortress EU control over it's members is unshakable, so they are untouchable, even though as Nigel pointed out, most of them have never had a "proper" job.
