WHAT'S BUZZING OR FLYING NEAR YOU TODAY - 2017

This is my friendly Pheasant, We met again today, with him coming at great pace to get Lunch and he seems to have a great liking for Sun Flower seeds, sorting through the heap of seed to get them before eating the rest.

 

My two Cat's, [Sally and Jenny]. They don't bother any of the birds and, in fact, the local Black Birds boss them around and the cats let them get on with life. But they will not allow Magpies in the garden and chase them off.

I'm a member of the local Gardening Club which meets once a month. I went last night and they were having a presentation on Birds of Prey by a couple that rescue such birds, breed them and also hunt with them, and have been doing so for around 35 years. They'd brought a selection of birds with them so I'd brought my camera with a selection of a 18mm-35mm standard Pentax lens, a 90mm Tamron macro lens, and an old favourite of mine a 30 year old Pentax 80mm-320mm lens. To be honest, I wasn't planning to take any images that night as I thought they allowed visits by people to be able to take pics. Unfortunately, due to the fact that they have to consider their neighbours they don't have general visits. So that meant I had to take pics after the presentation which I wasn't really planning on doing.
The birds were really beautiful, well cared for, well loved, very used to being handled, so were able to be held on the gauntlets by everyone. I just wish I'd brought a bucket as they all pooped in competition with each other, great for the garden . Most of the members stuck the inevitable mobile phones at the birds, using flash to take pics after being assured by the owners that the birds are well used to such things and don't take exception to it.. Anyway, I'm not one for sticking a camera into the face of birds and using flash as I just don't think it's the best thing to do. So the pics I've taken are without the use of flash and all I've done is adjusted the white balance on the camera and racked up the ISO to 1600ASA.........and used the 90mm Tamron macro lens.
so, apologies for the quality of the pics, but it was Plan "B"
