Do you have an IKEA near by? We bought a king size bed and mattress from them, it's a european size 160 x 200. HAMARVIK Sprung mattress Firm/dark beige 160x200 cm - IKEA comes rolled up for ease of carrying/taking home and comes in firm or medium firm and they're in the shop to try out. 2 years on it's still going good :blue thumb:

We got our last mattress from Ikea, you can shop online and they deliver for only £35 which is a bargain considering the time it saved us not having to travel 30 miles each way and the faffing about in the store (they are massive!).

I stayed in a Hobbit house on the North Yorkshire moors, underground and excellent, the beds were to die for, and the site was offering a 20% discount if you wanted a mattress
It was an excellent nights sleep (best ever) so I enquired for a King size one
Thank you sir for your enquiry, the basic one starts at £4800 and could go to the extra at £6k
I thanked them for their quick response (I think it was Harrison of Leeds)

@wiseowl you have our special, gold standard, Lifetime Shineyland Visa so you just need to wave it at Border Control. :dbgrtmb:

For real comfort with a mattress it's better to get a pocket spring one. These are made up of individually wrapped, and cushioned small springs that move independently to give better support. A mattress with at least 1,000 springs is best (more is even better but the price goes up fairly steeply and I think you can even get some that have 10,000 springs :rolleyespink:). It's better to have the border at least double stitched which helps the mattress keep its shape better. Having a double-sprung mattress is even better (one layer of small pocket springs with a second layer on top -but they're hard to find).

There are a variety of pocket spring mattresses depending on how firm you like your bed. They're excellent for couples who are of different weights as you don't get the roll-together effect.

When buying a mattress you should lie on the mattress (coat and jacket off) in the shop for at least 15 minutes to try it out.

For people who find that they get sore whilst lying in bed then a pocket sprung with a top layer of natural filler (not foam) will help a lot.

Got our last mattress at Bensons for Beds . You can try the mattresses out to your hearts content, this is essential . The mattresses have a number rating making it easier to compare one to the other.

I've got two foam mattresses. They are solid foam with cool max covers. I love them, doubt I'd go for a sprung mattress again. Not much help though Woo if you want a sprung mattress.
