If it was a Scania you drove there, then you were in something made by Trolls, so they were just guarding you! :snork:

In Britain, we routinely give power to people who didn't get the most votes. And we've also elected people in the past who we all know were living directly influenced by other foreign leaders of dubious intention and questionable integrity. That makes it a bit pointless for a brit to criticise Trump for exactly the same reasons.

Trump is clearly a horrible person. But he was fairly elected by the American people to represent them. They all got a vote. Trump won. There was another thread that we all agreed to back off from because of the Trump debate and the implications for the American people. I suggest we don't take this thread in that same direction. But suffice to say that one reason Trump won is because Trump was brave enough to voice the concerns of ordinary people, without worrying at all about the lefties trying to silence him.

What we seem to have now is Trump starting a row by lying about a fictitious event in Sweden, but then lots of people in Sweden and beyond then mocking him, which is fair enough (he deserves to be mocked) but in doing so, they are playing right into his hands by trying to say everything is lovely and there are no problems at all in Sweden.

Sorry Clueless, our General Elections are always given to the party with the majority vote, and if no one party gets the majority then either a coalition is formed or some other solution is found. Trump didn't get the majority vote.

No they aren't. They're given to the party that wins the most seats. That is not the same thing.

It means for example that the SNP can win 57 seats for less than a third of the votes that UKIP got that give them only one seat.

But in any case, we may not even get to vote for the party we want. In the UK, you can only vote for a particular party if that party has placed a candidate in your ward. That costs around 700 quid. Parties may not put someone in every constituency. They might be strategic with their funding and only put people in wards where they believe they are likely to win over from their main rival in the same area. The very first time I became eligible to vote in a general election I remember I told my dad is was going to vote for the green party. He laughed and said good luck with that. Sure enough, on election day, there was no option for me or anyone else in our town to vote green.

Our system is not even remotely fair. Yet we accept it. That in my opinion means we are hypocrites if we mock our American brethren for ending up with someone that perhaps wouldn't have won if their system had been different.

When I started this thread, it was meant to be somewhat amusing. Something to brighten up the day until we can all get out into our gardens.

Please people, dont turn it into yet another debate regarding the rights and wrongs of the political systems we all live in, irrespective of which country it is.

                    Me too :)

I like the sound of Swedes, they appear to be more reserved than the British and that's saying something. I will have to visit sometime and show how there is no shame in eating the last slice of cake.

With respect, your first 3 paragraphs in your opening post talk about the president of the USA making politically motivated statements against another country, then the rest was a blatant counter attack against what Trump had said, even if it was meant as humour. It's easy to see how it could lead into a political debate.

Perhaps we should ask the mods to move it to the muppet show, which I believe is intended for humour, instead of being in the top level of off topic, which I believe is meant for world events and everything non-garden related.

For now though, I promise to leave the thread alone.

I always thought that a Swede was a person born in Suffolk and a person born in Norfolk was known as a Dumpling:dunno::heehee:

I always thought someone born in Suffolk was a Colt, and someone from Norfolk an "and chance."

I used to hear a lot of gardeners talking about their Suffolk Colts, and one girl from down Norfolk way I was trying to chat up kept saying Norfolk and chance....:loll:
