Not a movie, but watching The Scorpions live in concert with The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (NEVER tire of this) whilst our spinach lasagna cooks ... to go with garlic coriander fresh baked rolls.

Not been to the pictures in over 40 years. Last film my partner and I went to, if I remember rightly, was Emmanuel (sic) and we walked out and went to the pub after about 20 minutes, lol

I remember seeing 'The Robe' when it first came out.

That was a good film but I may have been influenced by it being the first film in Cinemascope (wide vision). It won a couple of Academy Awards and a Golden Globe. Starring Richard Burton, Jean Simmons, Victor Mature and Michael Rennie.

They made a mistake with their publicity as the poster advertising it didn't have the picture of Jean Simmons on it but that of Jean Peters who was originally cast in the role.

Cinemascope started off the highly competitive market for wide screen, high fidelity, film formats. This was closely followed by VistaVision (White Christmas), Superscope (Vera Cruz with Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster), Todd-AO (Oklahoma).

All great films, released within two years of each other.

@daitheplant I was working in South Africa when they were filming Zulu. I saw some of the filming but it was totally chaotic as far as I was concerned. Although I thought the film was great. :dbgrtmb:

The man who played the Zulu king in the film was Mangosuthu Buthelezi who became Chief Buthelezi, the President of the Inkhata Party and a government minister.

shiney, from what I have heard about the filming, the different tribes really DID go for it, with a couple of deaths. John Fielding, Hook in the film. Is a hero here in Cwmbran, as he was from the area and is buried in the grounds of St Michaels and all Saints Church.

Hook was a real hero and not the way they depicted him in the film.

Chief Buthelezi was the great grandson of the King that fought the British at Rourke's Drift.

A lot of the filming was done round the back of Table Mountain (Cape Town) and nowhere near Rourke's Drift. They used that area because it was easier to get to and the scenery was more spectacular. They only had hills at Rourke's Drift and not the mountains. A lot of the filming was down just along from here.

Wife and I have just watched a filum on telly that has made me reconsider my belief that there are only about a dozen good filums ever made. Now there is one more.

                        The Boat That Rocked.

Supposedly fiction, but appears to me to be inspired by the story of radio Caroline.

                        It was actually really good.

Watched Captain Philips with Tom Hanks the other day. Excellent film, thoroughly recommend it, especially if you like true life films.

Lone Survivor (Mark Wahlberg), based on true events, fantastic film, if you liked American Sniper you'll like this ;)

USS Indianapolis (Nicholas Cage), again based on true events, a really good film, especially given the relatively low budget to make it.

Deepwater Horizon (Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russel), yet again based on true events (lots of these sort of films at the moment), again a very good film, not over done.

An if I'm bored I can watch the Bourne films over and over again

Agreed it is a great film as is American sniper.

I watched monument men last night, another film based on a true story about a group of people in WW2 who chased down and retrieved over 5 million paintings and art that the Nazis stole and hid.

I watched the first part of Kill Bill again [for the umpteenth time] and I always enjoy the music sound track, especially the track "The Lonely Shepherd" which is so atmospheric:love30:
