For the last few years I have noticed that Light Bulbs do not last for any time compared to a few years ago.
I have purchased several types of bulbs and they are rubbish.
This week I purchased a box of four Candle S E S Types. I only required two bulbs which I inserted into the lamps, 2 of them have died within a week. :gaah:

What brands of light bulbs do you purchase and do they last any length of time?.

Go for LED @music - they last well, give a much better light than CFL's and use a lot less electricity. I have used Long Life Lamp Company LED lights with great success (I have just had to replace a couple of the bathroom bulbs nearly six years after they went in), as well as Toshiba and Philips branded LED bulbs.

I have LED fitted in over half my lighting now . The kitchen and bathrooms are fitted with LED spotlights - cool white colour ( bright white for working areas ) . For the living areas you would probably prefer warm white , like the normal bulbs . Bought most of mine at Screwfix - pack off 4 below for £3 5.9Watts , this equals 40watts incadescent bulbs. :blue thumb:

We mainly use these from screwfix LAP GLS LED Lamps White BC 9W 5 Pack Dimmable ones are much more expensive. If you get on their mailing list you might get a £5 voucher every year or so, if it's for a free product (rather than money off) leaving until they've all gone will often result in getting the money off something that you actually want.

I've found exactly the same @music and have started swapping to led types and they're lasting OK so far... . Did try halogen but they last no time at all.

The engineer who fitted our smart meters recommended swapping our bulbs to LEDs which we are doing gradaually.

We had one fail at around 10,000 hours, but the other bulb in the circuit is still OK.

That's 50 hours for 1p cost of bulb, and over that 50 hours it'll use 2.5 units less electricity, it's a no brainer.

Got a £5 off a minimum £5 promotion from one of our PayPal accounts [1], used it to get another 5 pack from Screwfix for only £3.99 :ideaIPB:, our house is now 100% LED, including outside lights, wall lights and table lamps, only our 2 small under kitchen wall cupboard T5 tubes are non-LED.

The candle 40W twin packs from B&M were the best we found for wall lights @ £2.70 each if bought on a 'friends and family' 10% off evening, the 100W equivalents for a couple of rear outside lights were nearly £6 each, but I wanted a decent level of illumination.

[1] TIP: Create a Paypal account for every single bank account and credit card you have in order to receive multiple promotions, same as having a few 'spare' ebay, Amazon, Tesco, etc. accounts. That PayPal account was only set up for payments from 'Try me free' purchases, and got a £5 bonus.

To give some idea of the life expectancy of LED's, one of the companies here (that I usually refer to as "Codgers Kindergarden") offers a 10 year guarantee on the ones they sell.
