walking through Regents Park, I came across these strange eruptions from the roots of a tree by the lake. They look like a row of meerkats! Any idea what they are/what kind of tree they come from?

      They are "Knees".
The tree is a swamp cypress and these grow from the roots.

Ok, calling them "Knees" does sound silly.
Perhaps Meerkats is a better name.
