WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2017

@shiney youve just reminded me of another task I have to do! Need to tidy up the lawn edges. Do you have any tips? I've got a half moon tool and those edge scissory things (no idea of the actual name....long handle like a pair of scissors at the end on their side???). In the past I've made a right mess of it.

 

Stacking logs and pallet wood for kindling, hope to have over 11m3 stacked ready for next winter by the weekend.

Yesterday I decided to move the patio mismatch of seating around; of course, once I'd sat in each seat I then noticed something which needed moving/cleaning/tidying, so my quick 5 minute job turned into a good hour and a half of faffing

Today I'll be seed sowing because I've found my misplaced seeds ( ) Watch out Tumbling Toms ... I'm coming to get you! I've also got some cobaea scandens which I want to have a go at after seeing them a couple of years ago growing up Shineys fencing. I've got my with those. I've already begun planting pea seeds in some of my containers - a few the other week and a few last week. I'm simply going to cast the cornflower seeds, seemed to work ok last year and they are only 39p a packet in Pound Stretcher, but they were very much admired by one of the neighbours because the blue was so beautiful. I'm going to intersperse them with some sow direct feverfew seeds which I acquired in the seed swap (courtesy of @Jungle Jane ).

 

Set off a mowing trend in my street! Done front and back. Even pulled my weeds up instead of looking at them!

 

I am at the age, inclination and financial ability that I had my handsome young gardener come in yesterday and do a 'Spring clean' ... cutting back shrubs weeding, etc. Only 10 Euros an hour. I just deal with the pots ... except Ben transplanted the Cavendish banana yesterday so hopefully I will have bananas this year. Storms are expected so timing could be perfect as we desperately need rain.

 

I finished this thing today - despite of the disastrous instruction.

 

I only went outside for a cuppa and to read a chapter of my book ... ... began by trimming back the growth on the contentious rose but I'm really not happy about it being there, so ended up digging the blighter out (with a little help from #1 son) boy was that a big root!

But, now that area is bare ... .. oh yes, I bought a packet of iris from the cheapy shop, they could be put in there ... and just look at all the dead stuff still lurking: shameful! So, bag in hand, I wandered around picking up all things dry, brown and dead looking. I lost count of how many sycamore seeds were lurking, some beginning to grow (!) which I gave a swift heave-ho to.

Noticed the arbor wasn't central to the paving I put in two years ago, so ... dragged it back into position (#1 son had gone to work by then). My, my, just look at those weed seedlings out they came.

Hmm that little Hypericum I bought last year really should be further back and across a bit

Then I planted some "Lincoln" peas in last years sunflower/sweetpea trough so they can grow up the other side of the arbor.

That's enough now ... time for that cuppa; by now stone cold!
