              I turn the sad ones upside down so that they're smilies and the other ones are just angy, confused or frustrated because they want to be smilies, clueless.........all a matter of perspective

                        Smilies are certainly helpful with being able to put some of the emotion into the meaning of the words. Without them words can mean any number of things - usually interpreted by the reader in a totally different way from that which was intended. :thumbsup:

                        That's why there tends to be less confrontation in discussions between people when face to face (or voice to voice when on the phone) as the emotions are able to be read.

                        We've seen many examples on here of people taking offence to statements that were never intended to be confrontational. The smilies help to alleviate or overcome these problems. :hapydancsmil:
