Hi silu, We're experts on harvest mites here! Appalling things. Apparently it's the crystalline tunnel for laying eggs in that they construct in your skin which causes the itching. Suppose if you scratch it away it must help, but then you end up with scars! If you or @Zigs have a problem with them this year, a product called Ascabiol helps. Apologies, Adams6, thread drift over!:)

One of our members reported that as soon as the kids in the village found out how flamable leylandii are, that was the end of all of them in the village :yikes:

Well I'm damned if I'm moving! Might try spraying the soft fruit with vinegar, though...

It does make me smile how on GC we can go very quickly from 1 subject to another...veg in shade to berry bug....hmmmm I plead guilty to going off topic regularly. Thanks for the info @noisette47 we don't get nearly so bothered where I live now but will pass your recommendation onto a friend who still lives where we used to.

You attract vinegar flies then, make your wine go off :yikes:

Unless you want courgettes or iceberg lettuce.

                                Hello Guys,

Can I be naughty and revert the topic back to veggies under shade? hehehe

Pretty new to gardening, pretty new here as well and in a similar situation. I have already made a vegg bed 2.2m length and 1.2 width and seperated it in two parts. My aim was to plant veg on one side and roots on the other. At the moment the patch is seeing sun in the morning but as summer is approaching it will see less and less sun. The park is adjacent to our garden but still there are no leaves on the particular trees that create the shade. Even when we get to mid summer and the trees have their full dress on there is still some sun that trickles through the leaves up to the afternoon. From 2pm afterwards then the shade becomes a tad too thick I would say.

What veggies would you recommend to plant under these conditions and time of the year?
