I go to the dentist once a year but I decide what they do. :old: I also go to the hygienist every three months and have done so for over 65 years. The hygienist (had a number of different ones over the years but I've trained them well :snork:) keeps things in good condition so the dentist's visit is only a check up.

It was a new dentist the other week and she started off by saying that she will do some x-ray and I asked why she wanted to do them. Her answer was that she wanted to check that there is no decay inside the teeth. When I asked her if she suspected there was decay (hadn't yet looked in my mouth!) she said "No, but it's just in case". So I asked if she had any indication of problems from the hygienist's records which she answered "No." So I said "Did you also see that on my records it said 'no x-ray unless there is some evidence of a problem?"

She said that she had seen that and would like to know what I had against x-rays. My answer was "the unnecessary use of x-rays on me." She then asked me whether I travel by plane to which I gave the obvious answer of yes. So she said that the amount of x-ray from her machine is less than that which I would get on a flight. When I said that it's because it's accumulative that I don't want it she answered that there's not enough to bother. So I asked her why she leaves the room when she gives an x-ray. End of argument :snorky:

We must be more advanced here because they put a shield in your mouth behind your teeth and put a hand-held gadget at your cheek and it blips and that's it.

When I sheared my femur in a fall, I was surprised when they wheeled the gurney into the machine, the plates were slotted under me and the machine was lowered down and the girl went into a small room nearby. The surprise to me was that I was fully clothed ... shoes, socks, jeans, big sweater and quilted gilet (and underwear of course) ... it was mid December though.

Earlier this year, when I was having trouble with my back I had to go to the hospital for x-rays. I told them in advance that I wouldn't be able to lie down and they said "No problem". They were correct. When I walked in there they looked at my name, said "Oh, you're the person who can't lie down" and told me to stand over by the wall and they had an upright x-ray machine. They were very friendly and efficient. :dbgrtmb:

Another trip to the Hospital in Dorchester, by train, (no way am I going to Bournemouth!).
Eye infection is not improving so back for my third appointment. Eye test by nurse first, go out and wait. Eye inspection by Doctor, stinging eye drops, go out and wait till pupils dilate.
Go back in, 'bright lights' eye inspection again, more drops and steroid antibiotics on prescription and go back in a week. Originally it was a cold sore near the corner of the eye but now it is an infection of the white of the eye. I shall wait to see if the next lot of medication does anything.

@strongylodon sorry to hear about your eye problems and hope that the antibiotics start working quiet quickly and the infection soon clears up:grphg:

@Victoria @shiney our dentist doesn't leave the room when he takes X-rays I just have to wear a special pair of glasses and then they stick a gadget in my mouth which contains I assume the little piece of film that the X-ray goes on to.When I was in surgery for my foot I just sat on the bed with my bandaged foot on the plate and the surgeon took two photos of my foot and he just pressed the button and no one left the room:scratch:. These X-ray machines are good these days as they have a long moveable arm that can turn the largish bit at the end to get the right angle ready to start the X-ray.When my foot was Xrayed in December I had to walk up a couple of steps and then stand on the plate with my left foot and was told not to fall off of the step:biggrin:

I went to the garden centre yesterday, it was one that I'd not been to before & I have to say it was very disappointing .

@strongylodon, I'm sorry to read about your eye, I do hope the meds will clear it up this time :fingers crossed:

It seems to have almost cleared up apart from the corner of the eye being bloodshot so the drops have been effective.

Hey there, I am, so to speak, new here and I consider it a privilege being part of this great community. I don't mean to sound like crazy, romantic chick flick lover, but my day started so wonderfully, I can't help but sharing it all with you, guys. :)
So, I got this really long good morning msg from my boyfriend that is presently out of the country that really made my day. It was written like a poem and made me feel so special and loved. You guys, out there, don't forget to bring smiles on your significant other's face no matter when and where... no matter of there is or not a special occasion. Show your love anytime and everyday, ok? ;)

                          Cheers,
                          Aimee
