Taking advantage of the warm dry spell. Gave back lawn its first cut / hack down . Final cut today and then scarify it . This results in a frightening amount of lawn debris , which will more than fill the green bin . A trip to the recycling centre (can't call it a dump these days ) big green bin will be needed.

Will do the blowaway today.. I will!! Might put a screen up on the back fence if I got time too. Going to sow toms and whatever else takes my fancy.

I weeded a little of the flower border at church (where perennial geranium runs rampant!), and popped some lambs ears, chives and campanula persicifolia in. Came home and have restarted work on digging out my 2nd veg bed... hard work, digging out to 2 foot, so I can fill with manure and compost. At least pure sand cuts like butter!

On the 21st., I posted that I had been reshaping two borders. One of these is going to be reshaped further, as I have decided that it will be a nice place for a water feature that I have found.

Since then, two new borders have been created. They are waiting for plants now, the first of which will be ready for collection in two days time.

Yesterday was spent getting the (expletive deleted) lawn mower running. Unfortunately I'd left the fuel tank empty over winter which caused the problem. When it was running, I gave some of the lawn a light cut, and then did a little bit of scarifying. As I soon discovered, its a bit too early to do that here, so it wont be completed for a while yet.

This morning has been spent marking out two more new borders, marking out how a third is to be reshaped, and a bit of hedge trimming. Not much, only about 60 metres...Thank goodness for that well known german, St. Ihl! :snork:

Found some great heucheras at a local family owned garden centre today. Waaaaay cheaper and healthier than Wyvale!

Planted them into three of my troughs alongside the slightly more expensive "lime marmalade" heuchera.

Also bought some more hostas to go with the ones i got from waitrose garden. Will plant those on Thursday.

Been a lovely day outside today but quite tired now!

Decided to work on the Hydrangeas out the front. I didn't get around to doing anything to them last year except dead heading and feeding liquid seaweed when I remembered. I think they are quite old but no idea when they were put in. Dead headed, gave them a serious haircut after removing lots of dead wood, followed by a good drink of liquid seaweed. Also cleared a bit of the Ivy and weeds growing around them. Took much longer than I expected.

Was going to set up a hedgehog house inside the boat seat but realised the Forsythia and Ribena tree around the boat have quite a bit of dead and damaged wood:sad:. So got distracted with pulling it out. Gave the Honeysuckle, more Hydrangeas and the three Clematis a seaweed drink. Planted a very small Lavender ( bought for £1 ). Noticed that one of my hardy Fuschias, which was doing quite well, has now died. Something else that is not Anglesey proof.:th scifD36:

Checked hedgehog houses - two show signs that someone has been in and may still be inside :hapydancsmil:. Stuffed hay into doorways, so I'll know tomorrow.

Didn't do a lot yesterday but have done quite a bit since my last report on Saturday :heehee:.

Continued making new lawn edges in the back garden (another 100ft), lots of weeding of dandelions, strawberry weed and buttercups that are trying to run rampant amongst the plants in the edges between the lawn and the patio (they can run but they can't hide :snork:).

Dug out hundreds (literally) of Arum maculatum.

Dug over some of the veggie plot and moved a lot of primroses and the few Aquilegias that had been growing there. Flowers are allowed to self seed in veg plot and remain until the area is needed and veggies get planted around the flowers. The Aquilegias are very welcome since losing thousands to disease although the disease is still around . The dug over area will be covered in porous membrane. Two thirds of the plot is already covered in it and saves tens of hours of weeding each year (my poor old back and knees can't do too much nowadays :old:). So I intend covering another couple of hundred square feet of it.

Mrs Shiney continued with sowing, taking cutting, splitting, potting up and potting on. Just writing out the labels takes a long time and she's started into the new box of a thousand labels :phew:.

We urgently need to cut back the Euphorbia mellifera as it has got completely out of hand. It's 8ft high and a diameter of 20ft. We can't handle it with kid gloves as we shall need heavy duty ones (because of the sap).

I had a look at the fascia board of the roof over the pergola and see that it's going to need replacing. So I've decided to do it in green oak (pergola is made of green oak). So need to shop around for it. I need it to be 7 metres long, 160mm high (exactly) and a nominal 19mm thick. I'll shop around for a price that includes delivery.

I'll then continue with more lawn edging. :dbgrtmb:
