@Aimee Howard Welcome to GC :)

That's a very nice thought and I have been following that principle for well over fifty years :dbgrtmb: :old:. It's quite an easy thing to do with Mrs Shiney :wub2:

It's good to see that you enjoy your job and must be a very content writer :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Not the best of days:dunno: I was on the way from shopping and within a mile of home when gear selection in the car became harder and within seconds I was struggling to change gear:doh:. I managed to get home and immediately rang my Garage, who's been looking after my cars for years. I told Brian the Mechanic the symptom and he diagnosed it as Clutch Cylinder failure and asked me if I could get to the Garage or, if not, he could come to tow the car. The Garage is within half a mile from me so I elected to drive the car to the Garage and was there within 10 minutes. When I go there a quick inspection by Brian confirmed there was no fluid in the system so I left the car with him for him to replace the cylinder. The car has only 26,000 miles on the clock so I'm surprised the Clutch cylinder has leaked.
So, for the weekend I am carless, but maybe that's not a bad thing. When I got back home I made a Mug of Tea and replaced the ageing external drainage system to the Kitchen sink. It was a job that I'd been putting off and finding other jobs that seemed more important. As it was it took me around 20 minutes to replace the pipes and bends to the drain..........an easy job that I could have done weeks ago:doh::dunno::snorky:

I guess I'll have to get my Banjo back from Woo and stand on the Street corner with my Cats to get some money to pay for the new Clutch Cylinder.

Apart from lots of gardening I had a great deal of organising to do. Yesterday's work was just emails but in preparation for lots of meetings during the week.

We're launching this year's business awards, for the big town near us, this week, I've been asked to reorganise a county organisation (revamp the executive committee and rewrite their constitution), organising teach-ins for some clubs that I run and writing the upcoming annual diary of events for each week.

That's apart from continuing with the organisation of our Open Garden.

We've also found a buyer for Mrs Shiney's car but he tried to get Mrs Shiney to agree to put it through an MOT first. I was out when he came round but Mrs S thought he was trying to get her to pay for it. So I phoned him the next day and put him straight :snork:. He said "Oh, no problem, I'll pay for it - as long as it passes the test." Fair enough. :blue thumb:

Armandii, how old is the car?

If it's only got 26k on the clock would the warranty not cover it?

That's a very talented banjo playing owl, @wiseowl ! @ARMANDII I hope the problem is less complex and cheaper! @shiney I hope the car buyer is happy and the car passes with flying colours!

Phew. Lots going on here. Some friends and I are sending each other pictures of food we make. I have had some ham and eggs for brunch, tidied up the kitchen, sorted meals out for the next week (as I don't have much time when not at work!). Made some ginger, honey and lemon tea, and have ordered some cheapo things from Wilko mainly for the garden! Exciting.

@toppington I don't think there will be any problem with her car. It's 17 years old and only done 48,000 miles. We shan't be selling it until her new car arrives but we haven't yet got a date for delivery. We know it has come off the production line so shouldn't be too long and it's guaranteed to be here before the end of this month.

The real problem is that the clutch cylinder is "buried" deep inside the engine and is a pain to get to but that's the problem with most modern cars.
Hi Rusty, unfortunately the car is just under 4 years old and I've had it just under 2 years, so the guarantee is not valid anymore. I do like it as it has been very reliable, comfortable and cheap to run........all three things I ask of a car. It will also have the headlights upgraded to Halogens and a good service.:dunno::snorky:

We went to Packwood house today. Ended up playing hide and seek with the kids for about an hour in the yew garden. Went to the pub for lunch after, and a couple of pints.

Beautiful day spent with my beautiful the family.

When Mrs Shiney's car was 6 or 7 years old a part broke in the clutch. Our little local garage said it had to be a manufacturing fault and it required a new clutch. I wrote to Volvo and they refused to accept any responsibility as it was out of warranty. A further email from me pointing out it was a manufacturing fault and not wear and tear received a response that the car hadn't ever been serviced at a Volvo garage. My response was a copy of the summons I was going to ask the court to issue. Volvo paid for the car to be picked up by the nearest Volvo dealer and fixed the car. :dbgrtmb:

@shiney Mrs Shineys car is probably stockpiled with thousands of others down at Avonmouth docks and it is going to take weeks for someone to find it amongst all the others and to move it from the middle of the pile:biggrin:

In the 90's my father in law bought a brand new Ford Escort in March and some time later he found a sticker somewhere on the bodywork that showed the car had been built the previous September and we have seen brand new cars with lots of large bird pooh on the bonnet, roof and boot where it had been stored on possibly a farm underneath a tree where birds had roosted and pooped:biggrin:

That is probably why a lot is of new cars have that white skin stuff all over them to protect them from such stuff:biggrin:

@ARMANDII I'm a bit surprised that a 4 year old car does not already have halogens...if I may ask, what make and model is it? Or do you mean that you are upgrading it to (possibly illegal) HID's or LED's?

Hi SG, surprised you may be:dunno:, but unfortunately it's only 5 years since LED lights were first introduced into production cars. My new full beam and dip lights are the H7 and H1 Phillips X-treme Vision Halogen lights which are very legal:snork:. Phillips claim that the new light give up to 130% more light than the conventional bulbs.........something I will find out in the future.

If I understand correctly, you are converting from something other than halogens (eg LED's) to halogen. Is that correct? Incidentally, the Philips X-treme bulbs are known for having a short life span.
