No way to anchor it into the ground @Sandy Ground - it is going to sit atop a paved area. What I will be able to do (assuming that I go ahead) is to paint the feet with the roof seal paint before fitting them and then staple pieces of damp proof course to their underside, so there is no bare wood in contact with the ground.

Good tip about the fasteners, thank you :)

My brother's just built something similar FC for his patio. I'll get him to send me the picture again so you can see how he built the base. :)

As promised @fat controller. The pole is metal, my brother welded on the base plate then bolted it to the decking he put together.

Ah, but what I was thinking was.....perhaps you could attach the bottom box to the decking or even build decking or similar round it to give it the support it needs. :)

My brother's not a qualified welder but it helps being a plumber, now retired.

I am saving my pennies up to get a welder funny enough - always wanted one, but never had the money. Absolutely no idea what I will do with it when I get it, but hey, who knows......

Practice makes perfect FC. :) It's surprising what you can do if you put your mind to it. I said my brother's a plumber but look at his hobby.....this Norton was a small box of bits when he started on it.
