Unfortunately, yes, but only if the fence is his within the boundary plans for his House plot.........and, of course, if the House belongs to him. Having said that, there is nothing to prevent Linz, should she wish to, in erecting a 6' fence within her boundary to nullify the possibly unwanted short fence.:dunno::coffee::snorky:

Spent 5 1/2 hours gardening today:). Left Roger in front garden with ' The Beast ' ( petrol strimmer ). I quite clearly pointed out clumps of wild flowers and my exact words were ' don't cut these down, they are flowers '. I went to side garden and cut grass. Cleaned out final hedgehog house. Dismantled soft release run as all hogs released :yahoo:. Kept catching a whiff of something most unpleasant emanating from underneath caravan - debated whether to crawl under and take a look, decided I wasn't brave enough. Made up bowls of hedgehogs food to be put into feeders later. Cut down conifer and juniper in back garden in preparation for a little project idea. Wandered around to front garden to suggest coffee break and discovered the wild flowers had been cut down:yikes: And not just cut but decimated :hate-shocked:. However, as he's worked so hard trying to reclaim the front garden after our 5 years of neglect I couldn't moan too much.

Whilst sat on front garden bench we realised that two Sparrows have occupied one of the nest boxes :hapydancsmil::hapydancsmil:. So now have two pairs of Sparrows in the nest boxes and pair of Bluetits who haven't made up their minds yet.

It was his fence but attached to my retaining wall with posts in on his ground, I'm higher up than them by around 2 ft.. so not sure if it's to let light in or have been told by the council to lower it as they rent. Am skint as I'm saving for a car so can't fork out for a fence.. even if I did put a 6ft fence up would that still be legal if they are lower down?

It's legal to put up a fence up to 6' high on your own land even if it runs along a neighbour's fence which is lower or higher due to shortening of their fence or their land is lower than yours.:coffee:
In "most" cases where neighbours are on friendly terms and anyone planning to do something with their own fence will inform their other neighbours to explain why if they think it might affect them. The West fence to my garden is owned by my next door neighbour but I usually, on mutual agreement, look after it.

I doubt if it is the latter, unless it is a Council House, otherwise the Landlord would have to have been approached by the Council, and that wouldn't happen unless a complaint had been made......and logically that would have had to have been you!! So it looks like a personal decision by your neighbour to lower the fence for whatever reason came to his/her mind.:dunno::snorky:

It may be a lot cheaper to run a wire fence and then grow things on it.

                Google

Morning glory, cobaea, lathyrus, sweet peas, mina lobata, canary creeper etc.

No, no complaints unless it was the other side of them, it is a council house not private rent.. if that matters? It's not major but it is nice to have a bit of privacy and be told of such things before they happen.

Another possibility is he's replacing it and left it at that height for safety, my son is only 3.. but I just don't know. Suppose I'll have to ask.......

Thanks for the suggestion Shiney, we'll just have to wait and see what happens :)

Does it actually?? Weird thing is....we thought the builders next door were smoking something "fruity" lol. Me and mr snorky were convinced (mr snorky knows the smell well from his youth!) but we narrowed it down to the pot with the tulips and crown imperials. Hmmm :noidea:

Think they've done it to get a reaction, I'm not biting. I may phone the council to ask them about the retaining wall though and who's supposed to do what, I'm slightly fed up of a sh!te fence that falls apart every 2 years.

I think they smell like "weed" too, I was actually on my hands and knees sniffing it before the slugs came haha!

Not really, Linz, it all depends on the Council as some are very strict and "jobs worth" and like to be informed of changes to the property, while others are quite relaxed as long as they get the rent!!:coffee::heehee:

My wife and I bought one in the Wednesday Market at Market Drayton in the early 90's. We stuck it in the back of the Jeep and, on the journey home, kept looking at each other in case it was one of us causing the smell:dunno::heehee: That Fritillaria is still growing happily in the border and getting on for 30 years old.:snorky:

Ah! Well, I rung them up they're coming out to have a look to see if it's their problem or mine. (Not holding much hope it's on my left side) Spoke to neighbour, he took it down as it was broke in a few places. All good, all friendly :blue thumb:

Cleaned out chooks and pottered about in the blowaway... I've put my dahlias in there :ouch1: they shot up in the front window and cats were doing my nut in knocking them over. Took kiddies up the plot and give some things a drink
