WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2017

Ha ha....and apprently Lincolnshire is supposed to be the driest county?!? Only rained a little bit.

Back home in bucks its a different matter...bone dry..3 out of my 4 water butts are now empty. Been weeks since it's had a proper rain.

 

Im getting loads done today! Im like a machine! A machine that runs on easter egg chocolate

 

Went to wilko.. bought a 3 quid fatsia, lots of little pots (ones bought from asda the other week are so cr@p), bigger pots and um.. another plant can't remember what. Then went to BnQ bought a cordyline, lobelia, geum, delphinium, a hollyhock and some nails. Prob something else?

Went up the plot earthed spuds up, watered everything then went home went and planted the new stuff plus 2 cannas, a musa basjoo, few dahlias, heliotrope, some gladioli, a mallow I forgot about, longk's sweet peas, edible peas and ??? Can't remember.

Got this one flowering, wasn't bothered by frost.. (what frost!?)

 

You've been busy @Linz What kind of size is the £3 fatsia. Was thinking of getting one and I love a bargain

Been planting my waitrose garden internet plants most of the day and got most of the border done. Still a few gaps. Also need some tall evergreen flowering shrub of some sorts. (Any suggestions welcome for this border with baking hot sun and clay soil :( )



Went up to the lotty and amazed at the progress over the weekend. Potatoes are sprouting, rhubarb has gone mad, onions are getting big, flowers on strawbs. All exciting!!!

 

It's not that big at all.. a foot if that? B&Q got them in, a bit bigger if your looking for impact.. can't remember what price though soz!

Looked at preformed ponds online when I got up this morning ( 5.50am ) and stuff about setting up ponds. Bought two Ferns at hardware store later on plus an impulse buy of a Phlox ( no idea where to put it, but saw ' bee/butterfly friendly ' so it went into basket ).

This afternoon I chopped down overgrowth of weeds, brambles and various trees and uncovered an area approximately 6m x 2m that is a part of the garden I've never been able to access before . Previous owners used it as a dumping ground, so still got lumps of concrete, bricks, wire, iron pole and builders bags to dispose of. It was overgrown when I bought the house but has got worse in the 5 years of neglect since. Made a bonfire with all the woody stuff.

 

Well, its over hung by deciduous trees on two sides so would that not be a problem? And quite shady.

 

Thank you ARMANDII . Certainly a lot to think about. There is a lot of information online about ponds, some of it conflicting. I've often found the best advice comes from people who have experience of whatever you want advice on and can tell you about it, what has worked for them, what has not worked, etc.

Forgot to mention yesterday that the area is behind the septic soakaway , so there are pipes running through it, probably around 2-3 ft below surface. Also imagine there are a few tree roots too. I'll have a better picture once all the rubbish has been cleared away.

If I had a larger pond ideally I would like to be able to sit close to it. I have an idea of how I want the front garden to look and that idea does include a pond . However, ideas don't always turn out how we imagine or want them to to. I bought 3 ton of gravel a few years ago for an ' idea ' and have now changed my mind, so there are 3 1 ton bags sitting in the front garden . Not sure what to do
