Just spotted and killed the first lily beetles of the year. No prizes for guessing what the two of them were upto.

The ones I see on my Lilies are always wearing Shades, sitting in a Deckchair, and eating ice cream............and I come "out" of the Sun and spoil their holiday for them:snorky:

Whatever happened to mother nature's camouflage? Poor lily beetles are so bright red they dont have a chance! :yay:
Not many here but they do venture onto other plants too. A spray is very effective but a waste....squashing them when seen controls numbers

I found a few about a month ago. I squished them, and (touch wood) so far the plants are looking ok. Last year was a lot worse. You have to sneak up on them or they drop off and I can never see them upside down. The grubs are disgusting!

S'like asparagus beetles (same family as lilies). Sneaky little so and so's sidle around the stem to hide! I give myself 5 points for one beetle and 20 points for a copulating pair :yahoo:To be redeemed against a nice glass of dry white in the evening :)
@CarolineL Oh you're so right about the grubs....yuk!

I squished 3 lily beetle today, them being not native is the only reasoning i give my guilt ..
Snail jumping is just wrong! just collect them and put them in ur green bin less mess and they may get a second chance somewhere else

Been outside looking for slugs n snails......
Half a dozen snails to be found despite damp warm evening and a reasonably big garden.
:) Hostas totally untouched, for example :hapfeet:
