Yes that would speed things up (provided it is frost free)

Thanks @JWK if I plant them in a seed tray under a couple of layers of fleece that should be ok I hope....famous last words!
Oh while I'm at it. You know how you can dig a trench 4 ins deep and then plant the seed spuds, well that's how I'm doing it. My Anyas are quite tall. If I only plant them 4 ins down then the tops of them are only JUST underground. Should I plant them deeper? Is it showing I'm somewhat of a Potato growing virgin?:)

Are you laying the Anyas's flat? Otherwise if all the chits are coming out of the eye end, then I tend to scoop a bit more soil out and bury the tuber upright a bit deeper.

Oh God thicko me:doh:. I rubbed out the eyes that weren't at the end of the potoatoes what a ghit. I have done what you suggest and planted them a bit deeper. I'll know for next year, many thanks for your help @JWK

Collected my order of another 10 x 30L tree pots from a local Argos today. NB They weigh over 1Kg each, and are bound together with heavy duty plastic strapping that requires a stanley knife or stout scissors to cut through, so I'd suggest that anybody collecting these from an Argos store choses one with a nearby carpark.

I reckon they're almost twice as heavy as similar size pots from Wilkos.

Been earthing up my earlies for the last week or so, ones on my patio are shooting up compared to in the ground mind.

Going to chuck in main crops by the end of this week, on plot and patio

Now planting out my plants to grow 'giant' spuds in 2 raised beds with 22 plants in each bed in 2 rows staggered 600mm apart , rotovated to a fine tilth, holes dug 12" deep and backfilled around the plants with different mixes/ferlilizers (to see what does best). Any additional shoots I find are removed to restrict them to a single stem on which only one tuber will be allowed to grow. The beds will be covered by giant cloches to keep rain off and blight out.

Got the Picassos in this morning, Kondors go in this afternoon. I originally intended to also try Marfona but forgot to get any, but maybe growing more than 44 plants just for a single giant potato each just might be a bit excessive.

We've just had our dinner consisting of Tesco Finest fish curried fillets (serves 2) reduced from £3 to 30p, dented tinned petis pois, 75% off, and some Tesco Finest potatoes 'Georgina' reduced from £2 to 8p for 1.75Kg, total meal cost each = approx. 20p which is our target.

The spuds were rather nice, but I can't recall ever seeing seed spuds for such a variety, is it an alias, nom de plume, etc.?

They were grown in Lincolnshire. I reckon they're probably a variety on available to (selected?) commercial growers, perhaps one produced using micro propagation in labs, so not available as seed potatoes.

Despite my advancing years and having been a keen gardener for many of them I have never grown Potatoes before this year.
Most of mine are planted in the veg garden and doing fine (earthed up twice already) but I did plant some Jersey Royals in some old compost bags and have them in the greenhouse. OMG they are putting on huge amounts of top growth, a good 3 ft above the filled to the brim bags:yikes:. I am now at the stage of not knowing what to do with them. With such huge lush top growth I fear if I drag the bags out of the greenhouse, the slightest wind will break the top growth. How much bushier/taller could they grow:yikes:. Not a sign of a flower yet, any ideas as to when I might be able to harvest and get the space back in my greenhouse? if I had known just how big the growth was going to be I wouldn't have thought this ploy of getting earlier spuds was such a good 1:snorky:.
