Anyone identify this tree please?

    Can anyone identify what type of tree this is please? It started growing all by itself in an old pot of compost so must have been from a dropped seed. I have thought about transplanting it in a spot in my garden but I don't want it to grow into a monster.

    Not Hornbeam as far as I can see as the veins in the leaf seem to meet. Hornbeam doesn't.

    The shape of the leaves seem more like Hazel than Beech but we really need the help of @Silver surfer

      Hazel - I get regular 'donations' of them courtesy of a local squirrel who used our garden as a nut store.
