The other side of the coin is - no licence fee - the Beeb will have to raise income from advertising and generate interest in that advertising by producing tatt that panders to the masses. We don't need another commercial channel - I'm sick to the back teeth of protracted adverts in the middle of 'popular' programmes. The Beeb moans that they have to pay big salaries to attract the 'stars' - well surprise - I'm interested in the content of the programme not who presents it....:chicken::rasp:

I think that Graham Norton is BBC's top paid presenter at £50,000 per week or 2.6 million a year if paid all year. :yikes:

          I reckon it's £50 000 a week too much Graham Norton is a T wat

The BBC spend loads of time putting on adverts.
I totally fed up with all the time they spend advertising their upcoming programmes, it goes on for ages, yawn.

So why do you all pay out for the licence if you don't like what you're looking at? My television went out the door six and a half years ago, one of the best decisions I've made. :)

I do like some things :blue thumb:

I enjoy watching Hardtalk at 4.30 a.m. weekday mornings on BBC News Channel as well as Asian Business Report at 1.30 a.m. and World Business Report at 5.30 a.m. It's surprising how much of a good view of the news you can get by watching the business news as you can see the causes behind the effects on business.

I also enjoy watching the comedy programmes on Dave a vu in between those programmes.

Some of the quiz programmes are good as well. :)

I pay the licence fee grudgingly and it irks me when I hear XXX is sponsoring RHS Chelsea Flower show every year. A lot of countries just do not force their citizens to pay for TV licence. The way BBC staff make each other redundant and give themselves cash and get rehired straight away is obscene. Just why is a failed footballer like Gary Lineker earning so much money!? All this conniving create an unfair wage ladder whilst some people have 0-hour contract forced on them.

I am amazed that some so-called economist and another person said that if people take the 0-hour contract, then it is a good contract and that to have a job is better than no jobs. But don't forget, some guy with 2 hands, 24 hrs a day is earning £2.7m a year!

On Freeview, you can see all the programmes repeating themselves .. ITV 1, ITV 1 +1, and some True Crimes channel repeat their stories en bloc as well.. As for the BBC news channel, the amount of repeat news is doing my head in, and yet their autocue newsreaders earn 90K+ a year!

What amazes me, is how the BBC also promotes some programmes for ITV.
