Just bought this Chamaerops Humilis palm at Asda last weeknd . Its a good size almost 1 metre tall , selling for £15 :dbgrtmb: Asda often get big pallet lots of large plants , when they are gone they are gone . We got a lovely standard olive tree 5 years ago for £20. You just have to keep your eyes open.

It looks lovely Harry, there's a few tall ones around my estate that look very nice one was in flower last year, i put two Phoenix canariensis ? in two years ago, but I keep moving them and there not growing much,

Both are now in sunny sheltered spots so they might do a little better if I don't dig them up again Lol.

Do you know what grows quicker in the two Phoenix canariensis or Chamaerops Humilis, I might have a look if Chamaerops Humilis is a quicker grower.

Martin, in my experience Chamaerops is pretty much hardy, personally after a few attempts I've never come across a CIDP that is hardy with me.
They have very different habits of growth if they are happy so not really comparable, as CIDP gets pretty massive if happy.

          Thank you Pete,

I will see how they go in this new location while next year if not much change I will out them, in there old location they had the best of the sun but also the worst of the winter, new location not quite as much sun but sheltered through the winter, it could well make the difference, time will tell.

Hi Harry, Canary Island Date Palm

In my local Tesco they had a trolley load of Trachycarpus, fairly small plants in 2 litre pots looking well established, for £5 each they were a bargain.

Dont think you can beat Trachy or Chamaerops, personally.
Both fan palms I know but look very different after a few years.

Would be nice to find a reliably hardy feather type palm, but `I don't think there is one, I've got a reasonable Butia capitata that has survived 5 yrs or more, but I'm not convinced it would get through a real humdinger of a winter unscathed.
