Update, lots of leaves have fallen off them from the top, there planted where strong cold westerly winds hit them,

Ones showing signs of new growth :) ive been looking forward to watching it grow, it will be interesting race to 10ft sunflower V bamboo,

This particular plant is about 10ft, a new shoot should reach this height + in around two months from what ive read.

      Time to start feeding them.

I was thinking chicken pellets as mine form part of a large hedge

I cant believe how much energy the bamboo has, truly amazing how it can produce this growth so quick.

Nitrogen based fertiliser. But I personally think water is good enough! Haha! Water, water and water and at least 5 hours of sunshine. If the compost has got loam, clay. That a lovely bamboo.Could be Bambusa vulgaris or Phyllostachys vivax f. aureocaulis. The latter is a clumpster, not a runner. I so want to have one of these.

Thank you, when I planted them up in the blue barrel early this year I put a full bag of compost with feed in each pot, I will start feeding next week, some of the new shoots a really fat compared to the older ones,

No sign of the black bamboo sprouting yet, I will keep a eye out.

Funny thing is that when I bought my bamboo from a well known mailing company, it came black and now I was told that I didn't have phyllostachys Nigra. Now I know why. When the bamboo shoots were young, they were black and then turned green. Another thing is that I bought a Chusquea Culeo from RHS Chelsea plant sales. Now I have been told I haven't got that either! LOL! Very frustrating. To this date, I still don't know if I have Chusquea Culeo.
