    Just wondering how peoples' chillies are doing?

    Our cayennes have 2-3 full grown chillies each, but still green.
    Krakatoa plants have 5-6 chillies per plant. Lovely compact things they are, too!
    Patio sizzle have 3-4 chillies per plant, seem large compared to Krakatoas!
    Lombardo plants have 2-3 full grown chillies each - I love their slightly knobbly look!

      My Tokyo Hot , a Cayenne variant ,has one chilli one on plant. Now I have room in the GH and it has warmed up over here , I can move them out . They are getting very big on the windowsill .

        The Nagas are very slow, as usual, but they will bring the highest prices later in the summer. I already have a number of orders for them from the Bangladeshi community. :blue thumb:

          I collect my own seeds and dry them for next year. Put them in paper towel then in foil then in cling film then in a tin that I keep all my seeds. I don't soak them and they all come up.:)

              @"M" they fruit better inside, but if you have a very sunny spot outside they will be alright. But I grow mine in the concervatory/green house.:)

                @"M" If that's the ShineyHybrid then it will much prefer to be where it gets the most sun with the least cold - but if the grow house will roast it then it will grow OK outside in a sunny sheltered position that is chook proof. We keep ours in the greenhouse all the time - well watered to survive the heat. The crop will be much better and quicker.

                    Howdy chilli growers,

                    Written off chillis and peppers in the past as didnt have enough sunlight in old garden.

                    No idea what I'm doing....grown these cayenne peppers from seed.
                    Is the pot a big enough size? Do i need to pinch off any side shoot thingy's like u do with toms? What should I be feeding it? Do u need to keep the soil permanently moist? How tall will it grow?

                    Lol lots of questions I'm afraid. Thanks in advance :)

                      This pot may be big enough for now but you will need to pot it up sooner or later. The final pot size should be about 10L (12 inch pot). I grow them in ground.

                      No you don't need to pinch off side shoots. In fact people recommend that you cut off the main shoot only keep the side shoots. But I don't know... I just keep them all.

                      Water it just like you would water a tomato plant. Never let it dry out.

                      I don't think it will grow very tall in our country. Mines did not exceed 3 feet.

                        Size of pot depends on variety - and available space. :)

                        These were Tabasco and grew to 6ft in 9" pots but took up a lot of space. So I cross bred them into what are now the ShineyHybrids that stay in 2 or 3litre pots and remain small with lots of chillies on each plant.

                          @Snorky85 , as Blacktulip said it needs to be in a 10 - 12 inch pot . Just pot it up in MPC with a few slow release fertilisers . I water it and feed tom food from mid July once a fortnight. I do let mine go without water for a while so they wilt , this stresses them which is supposed to improve the Chillis. They soon come back after a good watering.

                            Great! Mine are cayenne chilli peppers-have either grown that type before? Will pot up again in a couple of weeks when back from my travels.

                            Mega amount of chillis on those shineyhybrids!!!

                              @Snorky85 , mine are a Cayenne variant . These are some from last year, that I started picking fully red from August . You can also pick when they are green , not sure how that effects the taste/heat.
                              The chillis will keep for a few weeks in a fridge , or we freeze them for use over winter . If you are thinking of storing them in olive oil glass jar - you must follow a proper pickling process or you risk growing botulinum toxin-producing bacteria !! :yikes:
