Stuttgart has been on my list for a while now, very nice canna @pete
I think I read some where that the white part scorches in the strong sun so it'll be fine here in England :heehee:

              Dear fellow Cannaholics. :love30:
I was very happy to discover this website, a few days ago.
Here in Denmark we have the same problems with virus, and this year I have ditched app 40 plants, until further - out of the 155 rhizomes, overwintered in my basement.
-- Yes, growing cannas is addictive --
My first flower this year is Montaigne. (trying to enclose a photo)

I too am wary of canna virus. Not always easy to spot. I grow Durban, Tropicana Black, Tropicana Gold and Pretoria. They grow like weeds down here on the coast of Cornwall.....i.e. they remain in the ground and they quickly make very large clumps. One clump occupied 9' across but I have reduced this over the winter.:)

A very warm welcome Peter. I am so sorry to hear about your lost plants.

I grow quite a few other things, so have restricted my Cannas this year. I am just growing C. altensteinii, which grows 8 to 10 feet for me (2.5 to 3 m), and C. "Cleopatra", whose foliage is so lovely. I also have a few seed grown giant hybrids from Jungle Seeds. From one packet of seed you get a great range of different plants.

Thank you, John, re file transfer.
It seems that it's not possible to transfer from an iPhone directly.

And thanks to Peter S and Verdun.
I would like to see the giant cannas on the coast of Cornwall.

Verdun - I agree with Peter. I can't believe that Cannas grow that well in Cornwall - do show us some pictures in due time. Having said that C. altensteinii bulks up quite quickly for me- the tubers are huge, but as I grow them in pots they can't grow into big clumps. And no way would I leave them in the ground overwinter.

Ok, PeterS, will do. Yes Cornwall has a long growing season and esp down here very mild winters so cannas hardly stop growing. My cannas will flower over 8' tall in a few weeks :)

I believe that Cornwall has a special climate - in fact I've just admired some photos from Land's End, on the western tip of Cornwall.
Are there hills, woods and lakes as well?
I started dreaming about hiking and MTB'ing in the area.

Here in Denmark we have to take the cannas, or the rhizomes indoors in the winter.

@Peter Dane , most of the UK must lift the Canna rhizomes in early winter. I live in the NW of England and I lift them . Cornwall is surrounded by sea on two sides and is warmed by the Atlantic gulf stream. Giving it it's own microclimate .It's just like Jamaica down there

Ha ha, not quite Jamaica Harry :rasp:
However, Harry is right........tender plants thrive here whereas even further inland in Cornwall they will not. I tend to forget not everywhere is as mild :)
