@Zigs sunblush is like not fully dry like a sundried tom. They're sweeter in my opinion. I'm going to have to look it up myself really as id like to have sunblush rather than sundried to eat.

What u going to do with ur decimated toms?

Aah, sounds like a non storing tomato then

Going to pack mine into extra virgin olive oil with truffles, then eat them at Christmas with @Beckie76's new potatoes

Sounds like a delicious combination ....my lettuce might have grown by then too

 

Outside tomatoes took a wallop yesterday with the gale force wind but survived, greenhouse toms going mad and got a fruit from my megabloom Big Boy. Whispers....... manx marvels doing well, for those in the know and I will be saving seed.

 

Hi everyone...this will be my first attempt at persuading tomato plants to grow, whether that be outside or in my new greenhouse that arrives in 15 days time.

So, I bought some quite well established plants and put them outside in one of my Quadgrows, this was a kind of hit and hope exercise, just to see how they do.



With regards to one of the plants, should I remove the stem marked with the red arrow below and if yes should I try and do a clean cut with a sharp knife, I don't think it will snap off as it's below soil level, the stem has formed a truss and is in flower.

What variety? If "indeterminate", remove (most are), determinate leave. Me thinks your pots may be a tad too small, compensate by feeding weekly or twice weekly as fruit has set.

 

I only planted my Tumbling Toms on Saturday and, like you, they took a bit of a walloping yesterday. They're leaning a little bit but maybe that is more "tumbling" a little bit

 

Oh Sheps, if you do remove, plant it up (deep), you'll get a freebie tomato plant!!

Don't say that about the pots, I blew £90 on 2 Quadgrows on the basis that it made growing toms so much easier as you don't have to worry about inconsistent watering.

Hi Sheps, I was going to buy them from Dobbie's, when I got there they was a online order, I ended up buying these £20 each,
Grow Bag Waterer - 2810- Hozelock

They appear ok, I'm no Percy Thrower if I get a few toms peppers and cucumbers I will be happy, if we go away for a few days ive no need to worry about watering.

 

Hi Martin...I had intended to buy the Hozelock ones same as yours, but I was swayed by the reviews regarding the Quadgrows, I just hope they work and I manage at least one crop
