Finally had the time to make a start on the area in the front garden. As this is relatively shady I have reseeded the lawn with lawnsmith's shady seed, and planted a couple of ferns etc. Recycled some old rocks that came from my old pond (RIP), have plenty more so I'll probably add 2-3 others. I am planning on possibly adding a Hosta (just to the right of the current plants and in front of the Aucuba).

Still work in progress but it's getting there.

I like your approach to the shady area  Looking forward to seeing it develop over time.

Finished planting in the shady area, I have a lot more rocks available but intend to let the plants mature a little before finalising the rock formations. Had to overseed the lawn area again as germination wasn't great (suspect bird attacks!) with a lot of weeds showing through. I'll have to feed/weed it in autumn now.

I must admit, looking at the previous post, I was thinking that you were being ambitious reseeding the lawn. I would have probably expanded the border to take up the non-grass area of lawn. But I can see that the grass seed is growing - well done!

I like the look of the bare trunks and branches against the flint wall. I think not planting more shrubs is the right decision. It s looking great!

Thanks for the comments, very kind. It's certainly looking a lot better than it used to. It really was a bit of a jungle there - last summer kept me busy with the chainsaw so it's nice to see things taking shape now.

I used a specific shady lawn seed from lawnsmith. It seems to work really well, I just think last month's colder than usual April maybe killed off some of the seed so hopefully reseeding will thicken it up.

Next project is to finish off the ornamental grass bed around the patio. Intending on extending the grasses the whole way along (this is an old pic so the grasses have really spread/matured now). I would also like to tidy up the driveway area, will get some images soon!

Sorry for the lack of updates. I will post some new pictures soon. The shrubs along the wall have all grown really well. I have also added a Japanese Maple on the opposite side of the garden, the sheds have been fully renovated and painted. Some planting elsewhere too. Pics to follow!

and finally the 'shady' area in the front garden. Planted another Hosta recently, grass still growing well :) Next plan is to sort the front two lawns, one has been scarified and reseeded although with all of the dry weather hasn't done too well even with regular watering. Going to have a proper go in the autumn.

Only a small update today. Visited the Garden Show at Stanstead Park today and found an old tub....gave me an idea to make a water feature/fountain with some lillies etc. Once it's finished I'll plant around it to make it look a little more natural.

Also bought a steel 'snail' whose now living in the lavender bed, and a nice 'leaf' which doesn't seem to photo very well!! Further updates to follow :)

                        Loving the snail! :wub2:

Hmm, I see what you mean about the leaf, I really had to squint to make it out, but, I bet it looks great in real life. :blue thumb:

Oh yes, a water feature with that tub would be wonderful! :wub2::wub2:

                        Nice update, thank you
