It might work - got to be worth a try. By any chance, do you have McAfee security installed?

One other thing - if you scroll down the Task Manager list, it should show you what program or device is consuming the resource? Knowing that might give us a pointer.

The very first one, install and run Malwarebytes - definitely one to try first, assuming you can download the file. The other thing to try is to restore Windows to a last known working restore point.

I'm afraid I am going to bed shortly as I am up at 4am for work, else I would offer to remote-in and take a look for you. If you are still struggling with it, I am on annual leave for a few days from Wednesday - I will be able to help more then?

OK, that one right there is top of my list for this problem. McAfee is like cancer - it gets into everything on your PC, and when it is uninstalled it has a habit of leaving bits behind which rear up and cause this problem. The last time I saw it, it was my mum's laptop, and I ended up reinstalling everything from scratch.

EDIT - all the more reason to try restoring it to a last known working restore point.

Good luck - I should be about from about 5 tomorrow afternoon for a wee while if you get stuck. Worst case, send an email to the GC email - [email protected], and that will ping straight to my phone.
