WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2017

How lovely to have hedgehogs! I haven't seen one in years. Could you post a picture of one sometime? W love to see it!

 

Back home and still suffering from jet lag. Got home wednesday afternoon from Canada. As soon as I got back Icut the front and back grass, weeded all the borders as the weeds had gone crazy in only a week! Felt better when id finished.

Then drove up to Birmingham Thursday evening and went to Gardeners World Live yesterday. It was brilliant!! Bought a beautiful clematis and lots of heuchera for my "collections" and two "mouse" type hostas to go with my limited edition "smiling mouse" hosta that I got from Hampton court last year.

I've moved a few conifers today tided up this small border and put a few plants in, i was going to bin them but made room on the front garden,

My front garden is very small, mainly a drive at the moment, ive bought the sleepers that can be seen to the left of the pictures to make a few little borders.

 

Too hot for gardening in the middle part of the day, so I confined my outdoor activities to early morning and late evening.

First thing this morning, made sure all the pots and containers had a good soaking, watered everything in the greenhouse and gave it all a good damping down.

Late this evening, watered stuff in the veg patch and carried on with 'operation seed harvest' in advance of our upcoming house move. It's easier to move seeds than plants, so as various plants begin to produce seed I'm collecting as many as possible to take with us.

This evening it was scabious and cowslips, which are both producing seeds now.

 

Watered the plot and poly tunnel, dug up 2 lots of spuds, pulled rhubarb and ate strawberries. I took a cold can of cider up to fill my slug pubs.. I ended up sunbathing with my feet in a trug filled with water, sipping on a can in the sun

Went home, watered all pots, back border and and front bed. Ate more strawberries

 

Watered all pots this morning before it got really hot. Late afternoon i trimmed back the rest of the conifers around the back garden, deadheaded lots of plants, chopped out all the black spot that has started on the roses and staked them for support, cut back the plum tree that was absolutely infested in leaf curl aphid (gutted), weeded the outside border and chopped back an out of control shrub.

Been up to the lotty and picked 1.5kg of strawbs!!! Gave it a thorough watering and tidy up.

Wheelbarrowed all cuttings and rose blackspot bits up to the bonfire.

Watered and fed the whole garden. Just come in and exhausted!

 

Oh poop-she never told me that! Maybe i'll have to pot it up then instead!

Have the slug pubs been working linz? Tempted to get some but dont want to waste my money.

 

@Snorky85 I've been using plastic smurf huts and they've been working so went to homebargains yesterday, 2 pack for £1.49.. so bought 2. If they don't work it won't have broke the bank

 

A day of weeding and dead heading. Were adjoining a Farmers field, he is such a lovely old Boy. Went round an mowed a strip of grass then strummed the fence line and pulled all the nettles growing through from his side.
Then enjoyed a BBQ with a couple of Ciders as the sun went down.

 

Planting out winter brassicas and leeks. Watering, of course, dead heading, weeding, sweeping paths, planting out seed grown salvias and dahlias, potting up some more basil other bit and pieces.

Today already feels hotter than yesterday!!! Tomorrow forecast to be hotter still. Could we be on for a summer long heatwave?

I took a lot of cuttings from my old garden and they will be going into the new herbacious border.

Watered all the pots, veg beds and front garden. Too hot already to start bugging out lawn for new border, so we're off to national trust for a picnic. I may start the border later, depending on whether we stop off at the pub on the way home.
