Of that, I have no doubt :grphg: Of course tenants are angry, they are fearful. You've confronted far worse and, I think, your tenants are very lucky to have *you* on the job!

Apparently, the residents have been complaining of power surges since the makeover, with one person saying that 1 such surge caused their computer and moniter exploded and started to burn.

I'm probably talking a load of old rubbish but in the joinery game things have changed.

When I was an apprentice in the 70s, we used to make what was considered a one hour fire check door, ....the frame had to have a one inch rebate, the door consisted of a softwood frame inserted with gyproc panels, that was then sandwiched with asbestos on both sides followed with 6 mm ply on both sides, the whole thing was them edged with hardwood and it had to be tonged on.
I made quite a few of these when we were doing the joinery for the so called "new" courts at the Old Bailey.

Now days a one hour fire door consists of a solid 57 mm door blank with edgings just glued on, no tongue etc.
We have to insert intumescent strips in either frame or door, but I've noticed that working for different authorities they seem to have different regs, which surely need sorting out.

Again, it's not my view on it. It was a young bloke's having an interview live on BBC news.

I don't think Corbyn was there to pull a stunt either, Teresa May was however.

BBC news posted pictures of inside the building not long ago. Think this disgusting myself.. those people have lost everything. Sky news shared a live streamed video of one woman who was trapped, they even said in the article they didn't know if she made it out. Some awful reporting going on

Where were the jobs before the housing was built in London? Or Manchester? Or Birmingham?

As the population increases, there will be a need for doctors, nurses, bin men, plumbers, electricians, shop workers, restaurant staff, bus drivers, teachers, staff for entertainment venues (cinemas, bowling alleys etc), garden centres.... none of these are there or needed when you are looking at a field or empty space.

This county has been south-east heavy for far too long, with particular focus on London - sure, it is the capital city, so that makes sense, but as someone who lives around London and works in it I can honestly say that it is highly over-rated.

I agree strongly with @pete - it is high time that everyone had the right to have a home, with a decent amount of space, regardless of their income. Yes, the investment needed is huge, but there are many, many areas where money is being spent needlessly - - we could start with the overseas aid budget for a start.

Which is why I've been sticking my head in the sand with this event, all the graphic details play on my mind and I go over what I would do in that situation with a young family. I still think about the Zeebrugge Ferry disaster years ago even though I had no personal association with it, I only saw it from afar on the news. I guess it's not the media's fault they just report what they see. For me I find it all too much when children are involved and just have to switch off. I don't know how those firemen cope with their emotions.

Well, I am angry and if anything getting angrier to the point that I am trying to resist putting pen to paper and firing it off to my local MP; no point in me doing so, because it is doubtful that he would read it, let alone take it forward in any way.

This country NEEDS to change, and FAST!

Well, on our local news tonight they filmed in a tower block and they showed one fire door which didn't have any safty glass in it and one reserdent put he's arm through the door where the glass should be

What's the point in having a fire door with a hole in it

This whole thing has got me literally seething - the more I read, the angrier I get. I have written the 'open letter' that I mentioned earlier today; if I had a clue where to send it to, to have it at least read, then I would send it - sadly, I have no idea where to send it as clearly our MP's are not interested in the least.

For me, the bare minimum that now needs to happen is Theresa May has got to resign - she has completely lost the trust of virtually the whole nation; following that, much as it pains me to say so, I truly believe we need to have another General Election.

Attached is my scribblings, should anyone wish to read them - I warn you in advance, it is LONG.

Can I just say that this is only my personal view.......

I have always voted Conservative but this year I just couldn't bring myself to vote for Mrs May ( watching Question Time last night it seems I wasn't alone ).

I believe that her actions over the last two days are absolutely disgusting and prove she is unfit to lead our country.

Yesterday she stood behind a police cordon and couldn't be bothered to speak to anyone only the official services.

Today even the Queen ( an ageing Lady in her 90's ) made the effort . What happens next, Mrs May causes a near riot by visiting a privileged few in a church, and they even tried to keep this quiet.

This woman is NOT a " Person of the people for the people ".

I'm sorry to say this especially as a lot of people are getting fed up with elections/politics but I feel that the only way to go is for either Mrs May to resign or to have a vote of no-confidence passed against her. Then, for the Conservatives to elect a new leader and and announce a new election date for the Autumn.

I know May is looking pretty crap and I must admit she has gone down an awful lot in my estimation since the election, but I just dont see any alternative now.
A fire in a tower block, bad as it is, should not change a PM., it's just a knee jerk reaction.

The local authority need to look at what they are doing regarding rehousing and helping those that were caught up in this mess.

Jeremy has stated that £5 million from the government is not enough, so how much should it be, Jeremy, old son, what would you say was fair?
You can say whatever you like when you dont hold the reigns.;)

The other thing that is abundantly clear is that the tower will be brought down sooner rather than later - I sincerely hope that NOTHING is built in is place, other than a memorial garden to honour the memory of the victims.
