@Kandy I may go over there tomorrow, I've seen it on the Brownsea webcam, we usually go in early July to see the young Common and Sandwich Tern chicks but I just might have to go sooner!!!
Brownsea isn't far and being a NT and DWT member it only a short £6 ferry crossing.

Good Luck if you get a chance to see it.Some of the twitchers in our county drove down to Sussex last weekend in the heat and got some photos of it but they were a bit distant. You should get good views if it stays:thumbsup:

For the past 3 years we've been told that a pair of little owls have been breeding around a farm just 20min walk-away from us. We've often looked for them and their young but never had any luck until now.:)

            They are beautiful little birds,@HsuH,:dbgrtmb:
I was lucky enough to see one twice earlier in the year, first time I had seen one in more than 20 years.

@Kandy, the Elegant Tern may have moved on, no sign of it today.

I've seen a little owl on a few occasions over the last few years, he/she is always in this little wood, I'm unsure if it nest in there as a Hobby was nesting there a few years ago, unsure if they will nest side by side,

I was going over the other day to have a look but it was hard going with them little sticky buds tangling round my feet so I turned back,

I metal detect this field quite often after harvest, I will see if I can get a picture.

We are getting a few birds in the garden now as they have cottoned the on where to come to get free grub:biggrin:

In the photo with the Wood Pigeon and Jackdaw there is also a Magpie sitting in the tree.He was on my bird table but by the time I had got my camera ready he had flown into the tree:snorky:

Considering my garden is so tiny I am amazed at the wildlife I manage to attract to it:biggrin:

I think I should have included "Hopping" in the title of this thread as the fringes of my wlldlife pond has been busting with the hundreds of Tadpoles getting on with the business of becoming a true Amphibian....
                      [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

This is the first time I've had the chance of seeing the Tadpoles emerging out of the water:hapydancsmil: It's quite an amazing sight to see them start to gather and take the first steps of coming out the water.

Since I took these images a lot of the Tadpoles are now tiny Frogs and I have to be careful where I step in the Bench area by the pond!!:heehee:

I went to Brownsea Island again for an hour or two this morning mainly to watch the Terns as they are so entertaining.

                        Saw just one red squirrel.

So what's going on here then?

While I was collecting a few seeds in the long grass/wildflower patch this evening, I came across these rather sluggish looking bees clustered on a plantain head. There were actually four bees when I first noticed them, but one dropped off before I took the photo.

The plantain is past the flowering stage, it's just a seed head now so I guess they're not after nectar. Anyone got any ideas?
