          For some reason they either don't like me or my soil, I tried growing them from seed once and they struggled, never got a single flower.

              They flower the second year, it must be your soil as all the ones in the pictures are in limestone graval no soil

                  They don't grow here either.

                  Or so I thought, never having seen them around here before, but out walking this morning found a couple of plants in bloom beside a ditch and they were growing in the pure clay that had been dug out and dumped along the banks.
