We bred them down to this size

and being a much smaller plant they don't need a large pot. 2 or 3 litre pots are easily sufficient.

Wow, the @shiney hybrids are brilliant! Are all the chillis different colours when picked? I love the variety, how pretty!!:star:

I am currently growing some very small Serrano chili plants in a windowsill and an outdoor tiny blowaway to see how they do. Am a fair way behind all of these, the stalk is only around 4 inches tall on the plants, but will see how they go! Thank you for the tip on not pinching out - mine are being left intact in that case! :spinning:

No. They progress from green through yellow to, sometimes purple and red. They can be eaten at any stage, are always hot but hotter the redder they are. The earlier stages have a fresher flavour but even the hot ones have a fresh flavour.

Those photos are not this year but were taken in June. They produce fruit through November and will continue through the winter if given the right conditions.

Excellent, rainbow chillies! Congratulations on making the hybrids, they sound fab, and seem to last fruiting such a long time as well!

Ooh those chillis look excellent. I am mad on thai cooking (been on LOADS of cooking courses in Thailand) and I like to make my own pastes.

Has anyone grown long green chillis? These are used to make the green curry paste and give it the intense green colour. Over here theyre hard to get hold of and I always have to go to the chinese wholesaler for them. Would be great to find that thry are easy to grow!

Almost all chillies are easy to grow but you need to find the right ones for you. It may be worth trying to air dry (hang them up in a warm place - kitchen etc.) a couple of green chillies that you like to try and make sure that the seeds develop for growing.

                  I have chillies!

Well, just a single, solitary pod on an overwintered Trinidad Moruga Scorpion plant.

Shorten the roots and wait for them to become finer and fibrous.

That is when they can support more pods.

Still, it was very labour intensive just to get it to this stage. Left outside against a south facing wall, it needs to be watered twice a day.

There is a double-potting method to reduce the inconvenience but I am good with routines and so can stick to it.

Obviously, I overwintered more than just one plant, hence, chillies.

I've been growing chillies for a very long time and have got the technique down fairly well :blue thumb: - although I still get things wrong :noidea:.

The two taller plants (on the right) are Nagas and are off to the local Bangladeshi takeaway tomorrow - for the use of the staff only. we have orders for nine Nagas but these two are the only ones ready (they have fifteen large chillies on each of them and lots of flowers and buds :))

Then we have lots of Shiney Hybrids

They always develop early and we've been eating them for a month. :dbgrtmb:
