In my opinion roses are happier in the ground. They are hungry and thirsty plants and would deplete fertiliser and water very quickly in a pot. :)

Looking lovely! Wish I had a decent greenhouse :) I've had no other trouble with nibbling pests though

I have had permission from landlord to completely clear the end of the garden out.
I'm gonna dig it all up & replace the soil without disturbing the shrub on the right (see first page of thread)
I want to get more light etc.

Get rid of the current rose bush/climber (pain in the arse)
ALL the ivy, there is also a lovely bush that over hangs from the garden behind in probably gonna leave that depending in how much it blocks my light coverage ;)

Pic updates tomorrow or day after :spinning::ThankYou::hotsun::hotsun::hotsun::hotsun: NEED SOME SUN

Pieris Japonica as far as I know.
This is where it is and it's the only thing staying in, going right back to the brickwork.
It's on the far right but how close can I dig around it without damaging it?

          @Marley Farley any suggestions.

The pieris, prob a decent size before you cut it MF Jones..? So I would not dig too near at all. A metre away at least and then gingerly. :)

I'm gonna be doing it today! I'm leaving the pieris where it is(on the right), gonna dig about a metre round it and put fresh compost in and around it then see how much sun it gets once all the ivy is gone.

Probably gonna put my new little rose bush there on the left hand side And remove the old one

Make sure any compost you use near pieris is ericaceous. No lime for it MF Jones

Ha ha, just means it is a lime hater MF Jones. :yahoo: Just wanted to use a big word :yay:. Same soil as needed for azaleas, rhododendrons, etc
Have you ph tested your soil? It must be on the acid side

Little update. I have put the carrots and herbs out of these troughs (you were right they were super duper waterlogged.
                      20170725_144245.jpg

I have (the best I can with soaking wet soil) moved them to here here.
Herbs on the left and carrots on the right

Hoping they pop through the soil again over next few days and bounce back.
