    I'm not sure that I see much of a distinction between advertising GC and a competition for GC members. The end result is that all competitors are GC members. I won't enter because I'm not on FB and don't want to be, but don't feel left out. :)

    It's similar to having a photo competition but not having a camera. Without a camera you can't compete. :noidea:

    The choice is mine to make. :smile:

    I'd be all for having a prize for the photo competition but can see a few possible complications that would need ironing out first. :dbgrtmb:

      Thanks Roders - I've changed my pc and haven't been participating much online for a while. I'm gradually getting back to loading pictures and hope to have a go at the competitions. I'm pleased to see some of the same folk are still on the site.

          We're now at the stage where I find it most difficult - the voting!

          Obviously it is very subjective so I'm trying to work out what criteria I use.

          The first is, does it represent the topic? (Some seem not to bear any resemblance - but very few.)
          Then I look at composition - but try not to take into account, too much, the quality of the photo because members are taking them on a variety of equipment that may not be suited for photo competitions (although dirty lenses are not acceptable by me :noidea:).
          As the title (we're asked to give each photo a title) is part of the competition I consider it an important part.
          If it makes me laugh it goes up in my estimation. (I like to be cheerful and cheered up :thumbsup:.)

          The main problem I get is that I like a lot of them for all different reasons so have trouble giving priority to any. :doh:

          So I shall gird up my loins and wait for Woo to open the voting. :)

                Where did you get those pictures of me? I thought that I got rid of those when the Romans invaded! Agricola promised he would destroy them :doh:

                At least I don't think there are any of my pictures that Naram-Sin had made :scratch:

                There may still be some ancient pictures of me introducing chillies to the Valdivian peoples :)

                            Are our entries supposed to be "garden" based? :dunno:
                            The reason I ask is because, in this months voting, one of the voters comments was ...
                            ... now, that is news to me as I thought the monthly subject was "open to interpretation" based on the topic. :scratch:
                            If a voter is going to dismiss entries based on their own personal standards (e.g. if the subject matter does not have a "garden" theme), then that seems a bit unfair to me.
                            Surely *all* photo's should be judged on their merit in accordance with the theme of the month (and not whether it is a "garden" theme)? :dunno: If we take that thought a step further, what defines a "garden"? A farmer may well define all of his fields as his "gardening" arena. The big man upstairs would include all of nature the world over.
                            Should I dismiss all images taken on a camera which is not a "point and shoot" on the basis that it doesn't fulfil a particular criteria? ;) :noidea:
                            Perhaps, images submitted by any previous winners of the competition should be openly dismissed on whim too? :dunno:
                            If I were to dismiss any entries on the basis they were not taken by a man ... would that be acceptable? :scratch:
                            What if I dismissed them on the basis they were taken by a woman? :dunno:
                            Perhaps, I should dismiss any and all photo's taken in Black and White? :dunno:
                            Maybe, such overt discrimination with regards to all entries should render the vote of that person ... null and void? :dunno:

                            Personally, I would just like some clarity: are the entries supposed to be "garden" based?
                            If not and voters are going to discriminate to such a degree that all other entries are dismissed, where is any sense of "fair play" in the voting process? :dunno:

                            Hope I haven't offended anyone, but this really does need a bit of clarity.
