But in general you should still contact your council and ask to be put on a waiting list.

I currently have a plot on a "growing area" which isn't very big, but as you can't have a shed on it, you can do a lot with the space available.

There have been a lot of commercial allotments made available near here (central belt of Scotland)where you can get allotments, but of course they cost more. The local authorities have re-started providing allotments in the last 5 years or so, but there's still a lot of demand.

You might be right - I found it quite difficult to spot what I was replying to!

I wouldn't worry too much @UsedtobeDendy I think you're in the right section but maybe instead of a separate thread alone, this helpful insight into Scotland might be better here:

Advice on getting an allotment ......

Good luck either way, I hope you've had a good growing year up to now on your growing plot.

@UsedtobeDendy forgive me for being an early morning wally haha

I saw apprentice gardener and wrongfully assumed you was new on here. After clicking on your name, I'm rightfully put in my place and have realised you've been on here years.

Hi! I'm getting the hang of the way things are on here again now, I think - but I still can't find what I thought I was commenting on... anyway, nice to meet you!

Hi there! It's been a bit confusing, but I used to post on here more than 10 years ago, (lots of posts!) but got lost on the system in one of the major upgrades. I've been busy getting allotments underway in the meantime, so I now know rather more about vegetable growing than I used to. A nice helpful moderator has just told me they've merged my old account with the new one I created last night, hence your confusion

Well, as you said, Dendy, things are different in Scotland so I think this thread highlights that and will be easier to find if it's made into a Sticky Thread.........which is what it is now.:coffee::snorky:

OMG! Head for the hills!!! So, really why? Is it a holiday or on business of one sort or another? (Nosey Parker here. Maybe I should have chosen that as my name....)

It's lovely out your way, Dendy - she should visit the Kelpies if she's in your neck of the woods!

It's not so good for walking a pack of 3 dogs off lead unfortunately. It's very busy, loads of dogs, children and busy roads nearby. We have been a couple of times, but the dogs prefer the woods and rivers where we usually walk. More chance of seeing deer and squirrels too

Yes, I wouldn't much want to walk a dog there, but if, like me, you don't, then they are an impressive sight for a visit. My colleague went to a border terrier meet up there not too long ago. Must have been mobbed!
