Good afternoon as you all know I plan lots of different walks, there are 28 woods in close vicinity to me,have been trying to find ie the owners or who manages them, which they all have 5 barred gates bound with barbed wire and keep out notices and stating that I must get permission in writing, well you know Woo,one example is Red Wood I have phoned the forest management company which is on the keep out notice (in Devon) and they said oh we no longer manage that wood, the new company must have left out notice on the gate,so I rang the council who said best to ring the management company:wallbanging: this is the 4th wood I have tried to find the owners or anyone,I am beginning to think that all these notices mean nothing at all,why is it so difficult to find out who owns this green and pleasant land;)

    Yours Frustrated
    but won't be beaten
    North Kent:heehee:

Move a caravan onto the land Woo, you'll quickly find out then :snorky:

Some friends of mine squatted a house that had been empty as long as I can remember, this was back in the 1980's.

I went round to visit, and it was obvious a cleaner had been coming in regularly, but something wasn't right, looked like a normal house from the outside, but it was fitted with industrial carpet and the back door that lead to the kitchen was a full size garage door :th scifD36:

Only reason for that I could think of is that it was so you could get a lot of folk in very quickly.

A few days later they were served with a High Court eviction notice, no messing around there :yikes:

It was right opposite the council offices, think they'd squatted the entrance to the nuclear fallout bunker :yikes:

@JWK Is there still an empty house on the corner of Bury Fields and Millmead Terrace?

Hi @wiseowl perhaps the woods that you are trying to enter have been sold off so the new owners don't want hoards of people tramping(I don't mean you)through their haven so that could be why there is barbed wire, on top of the gates. We have seen on our travels quiet a few signs on the edges of woods advertising the woodland for sale.I had a quick look on line at www.woodlandsforsale.co.uk I think it was and there are quiet a few around the country and they are quiet a reasonable price.

We have noticed that a lot of the wooden gates around our county have all been replaced with those metal gates so I don't know the reasoning behind that idea unless it makes them slippery when wet so difficult to climb over:snorky:

Lots of woods were sold because of the tax free status, wait for timber prices to go high, sell timber tax free, and don't forget any grants that may be going around ;) to replant later tax free again

Drop the Queen a line or two @wiseowl, she supposedly owns it all anyway.

Edit: I wonder if a call to the land registry would shed any light on these places for you?

If the council or land registry don't come up with anything then a nice letter to the local paper may be welcome by them (they usually like a nice mystery).

If the story to the paper is worded well it can get good results. e.g.

                      "Mystery Land Grab"
'Local council and the Land Registry can't find out who owns the land. Barbed wire, locked gates and mysterious notices with wrong contact details. What aren't we being told?'

Good afternoon this morning I had to take my daughter to our local hospital:smile:

It went well apart from the 3 hour wait to see the consultant who arrived late and then had the audacity to go for a 30 minute cup of coffee when he arrived and said the traffic was bad,(1 hour late)I respectfully informed him that the same traffic was bad when I left home at 8.15am to arrive for our appointment at 9.15am on time, and that my time was just as important as he's was,and out of 3 doctors, all 3 were late, when I left there were over 50 people waiting(standing room only) on this occasion it wasn't an overloaded system but 3 doctors and a consultant with a cavalier attitude towards patients:smile:

God knows how long the other outpatients waited I was the first appointment and i wasn't see until 11.15am:dunno:

                              Yours sadly disillusioned North Kent
