I think "Travellers" who move into a field or a Village don't worry about the mess or damage they do in a place, nor the possibility of being fined, being liable for legal costs or repairs to damaged property. The Police won't/don't check to see if the "Travellers" cars are taxed or insured [because they know they're not] as it's very hard to bring anyone to Court if they're of "no fixed abode"....and the Traveller's are well versed and practiced in the Common Law, dealing with the Police and irate Landowners. The only real way to move them quickly is to move in the Muck Spreaders and get the Travellers to believe/realise their cars and caravans will turn a dark brown very soon.:dunno::heehee:

Very true @ARMANDII , had to deal with this issue a few times in the past. They also like fields or areas where there are at least two entrance/exits for the piece of land so they cant get trapped on/off. Luckily our 3 neighbours are farmers are very vigilant with travellers. :phew:

Within an hour of them all going the neighbour had a digger on the land and within two hours there was a trench about 3ft wide and over 4ft deep all round it. :rolleyespink: I'm not sure what he's going to do with it. It seems a bit excessive if he's going to fence it.

He's left bout 15ft wide between the trench and the ditch alongside the road  but run the trench right up to his border with the farmer's field. The trees on the right are along the side of his back garden.

The tree just showing at the top left of this picture is directly opposite our driveway.

Maybe the trench is just a makeshift whist he takes time to put in a proper fence and he may then backfill. :noidea:

Blimey the joys of countryside living. Glad you have "lost" your travellers for the time being. They didn't stay long. You hadn't been out practising your target shooting had you @shiney? :fingers crossed: We have never had any bother with caravans arriving on our land or that around us. This just might have something to do with my neighbouring farmer who is about 6ft 8ins tall, built like the proverbial brick sh1t house, and who played rugby for Scotland a while back Add that he has a shock of dark red hair and sports a huge beard he really is a sight to see. I'm always very polite to him:hate-shocked:

Well, a trench won't stop them nor will a fence as if they fill in the trench to cross over it, or cut through the fence, they will barefacedly say to Mr Plod that it was already done when they got there, and without any witnesses............:dunno: I know of cases where they have moved steel pallets with 1 ton boulders on them that were placed in front of a factory gate, cut the lock off and then move into the car park. Other cases are where they've dug through an earth bank on a main road to gain entrance to a disused Pub car park, and where they attempted to drive through a gap in a hedge to get onto another factory car park and only failed because there were two cars already parked with a slot between them and the "Travellers" didn't want to scratch their caravans as the space between the cars was too narrow. Even though when the Police arrived the first "Travellers" car was still between the hedge the Police did nothing.:dunno::wallbanging: I have even known cases where the Police have deliberately diverted "Travellers" onto Industrial Estates to stop them setting up on common land in Towns.:snorky:
