Great to see you another foliage person @Verdun ! I keep banging the drum re foliage as it lasts all season while flowers can be so fleeting.
We have quite similar tastes in plants too I see (tho maybe not re lawns being a must:)), me having loads of different Hostas, Sanguisorbas, Heleniums, red Dahilas altho mine is not the Bishop. White Anenomes and Echinacea but mine are pinkier. It's funny how you are in Cornwall and I'm in Scotland yet all my plants are flowering at the same time. Think it's got to do with daylight hours during the summer maybe but not sure.
I had the same Hostas as the 1 you have in the 2nd pot from the front of the photo. It never did very well here and eventually legged up. I can only presume that as it is very variegated and therefore as it has been bred with lots of virus it may not be as strong as other ones?
Most of mine aren't extremely variegated now I come to think if it.This is about the most I have.

Ha ha Silu, my plants have been flowering for weeks now, many since late May. Anemones for example started in May and still floriferous. Most Dahlias since mid/late June. Delphiniums are in their third flowering....one is on its 4th!
Glad you like sanguisorbas......try the amplexicaulis varieties of persicaria :)
Yes, foliage for me too.......in winter this where foliage counts most I think. Hostas, grasses, variegated perennials and shrubs, cannas, coloured foliage etc. I grow a lot of tender perennials too.
Re virus on hostas....this is Virus X and is widespread. Gold Standard, for example, is susceptible. I have it and watch it. Difficult to tell which is affected but some are more prone than others. Touch wood mine seem ok. If in doubt burn it Silu:noidea:
What is your favourite sanguisorba? So far I like them all but lilac squirrel, Red Thunder, Pink Elephant and Blackthorn are superb

My first Peaches quite successful, they are small and sweet 25 on one small tree.
The tree was proberbly to small to support so many fruits hence the size.
                      But sweet and perfectly formed.

Probably like Lilac Squirrel best but not had it long to see how well it performs yet. Had Pink Spangles for years and it has past the test of looking after itself (necessity when you have a garden of about 1 1/2 acres) plus I'm getting long in the tooth and not much help other than my daughter who sits on the mower and cuts the grass:).
Have a fair few amplexicaulis varieties of persicaria which do their own thing too. Talking of Persicaria and good foliage I do like Percicaria Red Dragon, Very bold and makes a statement. I wasn't too sure it would cope with our climate but had it now for hmm a good 5 or 6 years and it's fine. Total cinch from cuttings, just stick shortish stems in a jar of water and it roots in a couple of weeks. It's related to Japanese Knotweed I think BUT it's ain't like that:)

Lilac squirrel is lovely,Silu ....posted pics recently. Been in flower for a few weeks now. Foliage is great too.....will be dividing it this autumn. I want more of it.
Have Red Dragon in a few places.......I trim it 2 or 3 times in the summer to keep it compact and encourage the darker juvenile foliage to continue. Usually evergreen here :). Have one clump as a foreground to Salix Hakuro Nishiki....makes an eye catching combination from May until late autumn :)
Reasonably large garden here.....front and back.....but 1.5 acres is an "I wish" for me .
