image.jpeg These flower baskets surround our local fish and chip shop. I'm not sure what any of the plants are but they look amazing all summer long.

Looks like Geraniums (Pelagoniums), Petunias, Pansies, Begonias and maybe some others.

        Looks like ...

... hard work! Minimum of twice daily watering of all those tubs/baskets :phew: :heehee:

But, a fabulous display: top job to them

So, curious mind ... I can see what their gardening is like ... but, how does their fish and chips hold up? :heehee:

The fish and chip shop is not exactly our local. It's in the next village. The one in our village is run by Chinese and it's absolutely awful. Sorry, I couldn't tell you what the Chinese food is like. It's not my thing. Anyway, according to the signage, the chip shop we use, which is about 4 miles away, has won Best Chip Shop Award 2 years running. I'm not sure how localised these awards are because I see similar proclamations on chip shops all over the place. It's handy for me to call in if I'm out and about, as I was at lunchtime today. Otherwise it's a bit of a hike but far better than the alternatives. :blue thumb:

Ps there's a McDonalds that's a fraction closer if you are desperate for food. It's open 24 hours. There is also a Little Chef that is about to be turned into a Starbucks.

I had a bad experience in Padstow once. I had dropped a group of children and teachers at some youth hostel, I don't recall where. I was booked into Bed and Breakfast in Padstow. :dbgrtmb: A whole weekend to myself and getting paid. The only coach park I found was down by the harbour. The signage indicated short stay only and the ticket machine wouldn't except over payment. It was Friday night and there was nobody about to help. I put in as much as I was permitted and left a note with my details. When I went back to the coach the next morning I found I had been issued a penalty notice. I worried about it all weekend. When I got home my company contacted the council and the ticket was quashed.

                Happy days!

To be honest, I never much enjoyed driving a coach around the West Country. It's a long way for a start. The roads down there are all very small and not large vehicle friendly. I found myself in some very hairy situations.

Of all the towns and villages I visited there over the years I would say Padstow has to be the prettiest. Somewhere I have some very nice photos from one of my earlier visits. Back when it was all new and exciting.

If it wasn't so far I would happily go back in the car. (I once had to catch a train home form Weston Super Mare. That was fun too but that's a different story). It would be a whole different experience. My wife would like it too. I would love to experience the Helston Floral Day. I guess the only way to do it is to stay in Helston, which would mega expensive. It would probably rain if we were there. :frown:

So, next stop. Isle of Wight. Plenty of fish and chip shops there. ;)

Flora Day is quite an experience Gary.
You are right about the roads though......:noidea:
However, it has to be the beaches down here that are the stars. The coastline varies from soft and pretty to rugged and fearsome. :)
