Today we went to pick up ( literally ) some free rockery stones :blue thumb:. Afterwards we popped into a garden centre for lunch and I came away with an Helinium :hapydancsmil:and a sickly looking Rose Geranium. The Helinium was quite expensive at £8.99 :hate-shocked: but based on Verduns comments and pictures I had to have one. Of course I have nowhere to put it or the Geranium.

In that particular episode, the Goods wanted to prove to the neighbours that they could feed themselves. They set up a table and chairs in the back garden. They both dressed up in there best evening wear. Their dinner was hidden from sight under a silver cloche. Barbara good eventually lifted the cloche to reveal ---------------- an egg :lunapic 130165696578242 5:. "How could you miss from 2 inches?" she asked.
"At least now we know how to get it to lay eggs," Tom retorted.

In subsequent episodes, Barbara had to kill the chickens herself.

They really where comedy gold, in my eyes. Must admit it was always Margot who stole the show for me. The epitome of seventies snobbery :heehee: I know it's always the xmas show repeated, but ..... Christmas hasn't been delivered...... will stay with me for life:snorky: then she gets pickled on homebrew :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Luciousmaximus, enjoy your helenium....which variety? Sun and not too dry soil will do it well. :)
Re the Good Life, can anyone remember the comedy starring Richard Briers ( Penelope Keith and one I cannot remember for the moment) , where he was always second best to his accomplished neighbour? Ah! Got it....Ever decreasing Circles. So very funny.:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Ever decreasing circles was Richard Briers, Penelope Wilton and Paul Egan. Richard Briers' character Martin, was chairman of all the local societies. He took his work very seriously.

An era I fear we won't see again, brilliant sitcoms, edgy comedy, brilliant writing!
I've recently been able to catch bits of Rising Damp, omg, I can't believe I didn't find it funny first time round !!!! The irony is tangable!
                    Sorry, back to topic:sofa:

Short and Sassy. Its no good trying to have tall plants here, the winds just decimate them. I can get away with 18 inches - 2 foot in the back and side gardens as they are a little more sheltered. I was tempted to have bought more pots of Helenium but decided I should wait and see how it does first. Plus the price tag is a bit salty:yikes:. I could buy 3 pots of something from the local hardware store for that price, but they don't have Heleniums.

Trying to work out where I'm going to put my new plants, probably have to go in tubs until next year. Hoping to start work on creating new bed in side garden today:yahoo:

@luciusmaximus Have you thought of building a high wall around the garden?

The back and side gardens have high hedges, which is why they have more shelter. I was planning to plant hedges out the front alongside the boundary wall but as usual its on a very long list of things to do. Probably best to wait until new septic system has been installed anyway as digger will be working in that area.

I would likely need planning permission to build up the boundary walls as we are in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

I am hoping to start doing the groundwork on the new bed later, so I could maybe stick it in some soil then. I will have to move it at a later date though as haven't decided on positioning of the plants for this new bed. I really need to reduce all the pots so will be using some of those plants. I'm also wondering if I should delay doing too much until new septic system is completed. Digger will be working in the side garden too. Starting to get a bit anxious about all this and the potential for lots of damage.

Take pictures of how the garden and beds look now in that area Lucius. If any damage is done that you weren't expecting during the work, you could claim for that using the pictures as evidence. :)
