This has been on the agenda locally for a while and the costs are staggering around £200 million !

What a waste of money as the predicted gain will be 10 minutes less through that junction.

BUT all that means is that commuters will get to the next queue on the A3 or M25 10 minutes earlier and spend 10 minutes longer in it. So unless they intend to build a 4 lane highway straight into London it's complete codswallop.

The real reason for this proposal is about moving the traffic jams away from a few privileged people who live nearby, it has nothing to do with helping commuters.

I hope to goodness this scheme is exposed as lunacy. Sadly my council are presenting two options so that they can claim the public had their say. The only choice is to say NO to all the proposals.

      Please sign the petition:
Sign the Petition: Save RHS Garden Wisley and 500 of its important trees under threat from potential Highways England plans

Here is JWK's alternative proposal to save the planet, it costs next to nothing:

The Wisley junction runs smoothly at all times outside of rush hour. The govt should encourage/enforce "Working from home" and "Flexible working". This would take cars off the road during rush hour. Also the other big culprit is the mums doing the school run, so stop allowing choice on school location, we all remember the time when we just walked to the nearest school. Now the madness seems to be to drive kids miles to a school that is higher in a fantasy league table.

I'm off my soap box now.

if some people got up earlier to get to work and spread the traffic out more there wouldn't be a problem

When i used to go the london with lorry i would be going around that M25 before 6am just to miss that traffic, but it meant i had to be up at 2am :)

Likewise - they are absolutely barmy to even consider this; not least as there is brownfield site on the other side of the road!

I think they should put the whole A3 and M25 in a tunnel. They started at Hindhead, just need to carry it on :ideaIPB:

Sorry, JWK, edited your sentence to reflect the even greater madness at play here! Parents are driving their children to school ... even if it is a mere 5/10 minutes walk away!

It's the same here "M", sure I've said this before when I used to walk my kids to school, we would dodge the parents reversing out of their drives then arrive at school at the same time, as they had to double park. Then on the walk home I would usually get back before them. These same parents were physically fit and younger than me - just incredibly lazy. Sadly they will pass the habit onto the next generation. Even these small trips cause bad traffic on local roads which propagates onto the main roads etc etc.

I Leave for work at around 6.50am.
Since the school summer holidays I've been getting to work around 5 to 10 minutes earlier than usual, that is on a 10 mile trip along country lanes.

As to Wisley, I've not been there recently, but although busy it was always pretty accessible in the past.
So cant see the reasoning behind this.

Signed. Very well said @JWK. I really don't understand why all of a sudden (within the last 15 years anyway) that children are deemed no longer capable of walking to school if within a reasonable distance.
In my day ....bit longer ago than 15 years:) I started walking to school when I was 7. The distance was about 1 1/4 miles. Did it kill me?, did it hell. My children all walked to get to the school bus. The walk was about a mile. The school was 15 miles away so fair enough a bus was needed for part of the journey!
I was horrified the other day at lunch time as I drove past the school my youngest child attended. There was a stream of fat children waddling down the road heading for the chippy/sweet shop. I'll have a small bet that very few of these children will walk to school, perhaps if they did they wouldn't be carrying lumps of lard around with them. The fact that children are now allowed out of school at lunch time to go and buy whatever they want to eat instead of school lunches being compulsory is another debate altogether. Not sure the whole Jamie Oliver affair wasn't anything other than an Oliver benefit?
