2017 Tomato Growing

Well, I have no complaints about this years Tomato crop. I've grown 3 plants of 5 varieties, from seed, Ailsa Craig, Shirly, Module 1, Alicante, Money Maker without any real problems and had really heavy trusses of fruit. A lot of toms have gone to my neighbours, friends and relatives as I couldn't have ate all of them.

 

Module 1 ? Have you mucked up your labels Armandii?

 

I was a fan of a small very sweet Plum variety called Rosada which I believe was of Japanese origin. Unfortunately, it had to be re-licensed with the EU when the first licence ran out and they found that the price being asked by the EU was far too much to justify supplying the Rosada seed. So I went searching for another variety and, if I remember rightly, found a variety in Nicky's Nursery [it could have been "Seedaholic's"] called Module 1 [Mod 1]. You'll have to forgive me regarding which Nursery I get it from as I approach each year differently and use quite a few different Nursery sources every year.
I then did a little research and the "rumour" was that Module 1 was an improved variety of Rosada but registered in Europe making it, I believe, cheaper and easier to register with the EU. I confess it wasn't easy to find and I just "stumbled" over it when searching for a replacement.
I've been growing it as a substitute for Rosada for the last two years and I like it. Perhaps my taste buds are telling me it's not as sweet as Rosada but it certainly crops well and makes a nice contrast with the other varieties I grow.

 

They also spilt when washed unlike all the other varieties I've grown this year. Another bad thing about them is they were late ripening, nearly a month after Suncherry.
