Yes, but we used to use fractions of an inch in imperial sizes as well, but mostly yards feet and inches, so why is it not the same with metric? :)

That's not technically logical or accurate, Jack:dunno::snorky: Anything that is made "true" to any size, whether Imperial or Metric is accurate.:heehee: In both scales you can go into 100th's, 1000th's and Millionth's or more if you want. I guess it's all down to whether you like counting in 5 and 10's or Fractions:snorky:

Being :old: I can still calculate, and estimate, accurately in Imperial and am able to convert with no trouble from Imperial to Metric and vice versa. What I find just a little more difficult is to estimate in Metric. But I can still measure in Cubits :snorky:

Although that's another measurement I'm not good at estimating

The new 'Strictly Come Dancing' celebrity line up?

I only recognise Debbie McGee - I've no idea who the other 'celebrities' are :dunno:.

It lost most of its sparkle when Brucie left and has gone down hill ever since - it can't even attract well known competitors now. I think it's time to pack it in .

No more ten from Len either.:)

My way of guesstimating something in metric is: divide by 5 and then multiply by 2. That gives me a gauge of where I'm at in inches
            E.G: 35cm/5x2= 14"
No idea who taught me that, but in more recent times I've taught it to a number of people who were left  when looking at the dimensions of a product. :heehee: They were very grateful and never come back complaining ... but then, as it was a case of ships which pass in the night ... they've simply never found me again :snorky:

It's a good way of guesstimating as it's only approx. .16% out. :blue thumb:

Hey this is a great way of figuring out sizes if you were taught good old ft and ins as I was:) Many thanks @"M" . Many a time I've been:scratch: wondering what the hell size something is.
I'm ok on Kilos as the business I was involved with changed over to metric weight early doors.

back from vacation. husband says " I bought some "new" milk for myself. I checked the fridge there is 1/2 gallon of almond milk and a 1/2 gallon of soy milk.(which is his "new" milk) then I check regular milk, there is about 2 cups left, just enough for a few days from my coffee, so I move on. three days later, husband says did you buy milk. I say well know, you have the one you bought your "new" milk. guess he wanted to drink all kinds.

I'm ok with metric and imperial length measurements. I'm not so good with weights and volumes. In either system. I find cooking a pain. The American system of cups is quite a good system.

1/2 gallon = 4 pints, right? Or 2 quarts. In American films milk is always sold in quarts. I know 1 pint = 568 ml because that is what is written on the side of a pint glass. In our fridge at the moment we have a bottle of milk labelled 2l (3.56pints). In Europe draught beers or not sold in pints but 250ml or 500 ml measures.

                          It's all very confusing.

@Jack Sparrow That's an unfortunate example to pick as, in the U.S.A., 1 pint = 473ml  :snorky:

The U.S. gallon is quite a bit smaller than ours :rolleyespink: as it equals 6.66 Imperial pints and not the eight pints that an Imperial gallon equals :old:
